Dont think PC males will chase them out, except 2 young males, other females they will see as mating opportunities, young females are prob only few months/ half a year away from estrus.

I am not 100% sure, but it definitelly looks to be Blondie Avoca.

On the 24th of January, our Northern #conservationofficer found an adult #malelion  that appeared to have a bullet wound above its ear. After the #veterinary #intervention , it was found that, fortunately, it was a deep claw wound from fighting with another male lion. We wouldn’t usually treat an animal with a natural injury (as stated in our current Management Plan below), but because of the appearance of a possible anthropogenic injury, we intervened, and it turned out to be of a natural cause. We are happy with the outcome, and the animal is doing well.

“SSW Protected Area will at all times aim to achieve minimal management interference with regards to its existing wildlife populations. Exceptions will only be made when, through anthropogenic interference, the wellbeing of indigenous wildlife species are threatened.”

I'm a bit confused now. Wasn't that him being treated by the vets in the video posted in the other thread and above yet this photo is also dated for today?

Yeah this is DM. Despite Blondie having a darker mane now it’s still a lot blonder than this on top. The nose eyes and healing scar on the face also says it’s DM.

Like DM currently having aa hole in his forehead. Blindie was also having the same. On 24 th jan, rangers thought he was hit by a bullet. They performed operation. It was piecpiece of claw of other lion ( due to some skirmishes).
Now blondieblondie is healthy again.

Quite suprised that they decided to "inspect" Blondie's injury, I mean those kind of "hole" injuries on lion faces are not so rare, but yea, they where prob not sure.

Looking at the footage, I can see why the rangers thought he’d been hit by a bullet. The hole in his head was perfectly round and looked like an injury caused by a man made weapon. Though I guess if it was a bullet, him being hit in the head would’ve resulted in death, but they wanted to be sure I guess.

I’m surprised they didn’t muzzle Blondie while conducting the procedure. I seem to recall when the snare was removed from Red Road they had him muzzled, even though he had been tranquilized, I’m guessing as an extra layer of precaution?

Anyway, glad they at least checked to make sure his injury was unnatural and treated it. Glad Blondie is okay now.

The Southern Avoca are finally now leaving a whale of a legacy....if most of their cubs survive!  They now have, what 13-15 offspring with the Sand River Pride (?), and an untold number with the Plains Camp Pride....plus supposedly 3 cubs with the N'was lioness.

A Sand River lioness just introduced 5 cubs not long ago!  Is she a younger lioness?

I’ve been told she is the Toulon Male’s daughter, one of the oldest. Too bad we don’t see this pride more often. They’re extremely important to this area, historically and for their genetics.
