Sabi Sabi A Week in the Bush Vol. 544 (April 16th, 2025)

https://www.sabisabi.com/discover/weekly...sh-vol-544

We came across the Southern Pride moving slowly eastward, their bellies full from a recent meal. Despite having fed, they stayed alert, scanning their surroundings for any fresh hunting opportunities. We followed them for some time, hoping to witness a hunt, but after several aborted attempts, they disappeared into the bush.

We found the entire Msuthlu Pride in the company of the two Gijima males as they finished off a wildebeest kill. The younger cubs were squabbling over the last remaining bones, while the adults were already resting along the riverbed. The pride looked content, and judging by their full bellies, it seemed every member had eaten well.

With all of these duos around how many of them are actually littermates plains camp males mantimahles ndzenga mbiri gijimas I mean most of them come from pretty big prides so you’d think it would be more of them or they’ve got different mothers I mean we know ndzengas aren’t littermates as amahle is older than erongji

They're back in Sabi Sands, I saw it on instagram myself somewhere and I think the sighting was at Chitwa Chitwa.

By the way I have noticed a lot of nomads venture into Manyeleti but never seem to stay there, I wonder why.

Hi. Thank-you I thought it was not known where Kruger male is from.  When you say Robson male lions; sons of Split Rock male lions?

Kruger male was born in S30 pride, 2013-2014. Who sired him is not confirmed, but some people believe he was sired by the Robson males.

And yes, he was talking about Robson males sired by Split Rock males.

3 Old Sand River males are also candidates who might sired Kruger males, they where dominant over Marula Loop for years, clashing few times with their neighbours Robson males, who where northeast of them.

Around 2010/11 they expanded further south, and Toulon Males established at Marula Loop, in between them and Robsons.

There they sired Renosterkoppies males (known as nomadic Renosterkoppies), but possibly more offspring.

Check my post about them: https://wildfact.com/forum/topic-lion-ta...#pid128103

Biggest male do look kinda similar to remaining Kruger male.

Problem with Robson male is timeline, remaining male lost his territory in 2013 (around the time when Kruger males where born), and went nomadic with his 2 sons.

Also area, s30 is kinda south of Robsons territory in 2013, more towards Nkhulu area.

I mean its possible that remaining Robson mated with some female and these cubs survived, but we will never know for sure.

Thank you for the info. To be fair, S30 pride and subadult Kruger male were seen on S30 near H12 bridge (where I marked it in the image).

In 2013, were Robson males territorial between Rhino Post and Mantimahle Dam (orange marker)? If that is the case, then by 2013, S30 pride was southeast Robson's territory, east of Toulon males territory and quite far from Sand River males (Renosterkoppies).

Idk, only 1 Robson was still alive at this point, and become nomad around that time.
