Ndhzengas might actually commit in expanding north and taking NKs.

They are not affraid of 2 Mantimahles or Kambulas, and only rivals who can match them, PCMs, give up from that area.
I'd like the Ndhzengas to take the NKs, but they are a little bit old. By the time they fully take over the pride and have cubs with the lionesses, it'd be close to the end of 2025 and they'd be ~10 years old. I'm not entirely convinced they could take care of both the NKs and the Kambula pride - they'd have to give one of them up, I suspect.

Both Ndhzengas look in excellent condition, with no health problems on horizon, so barring unexpected injuries or something, they are on good track to reach atleast 12 yrs of age.

Which would be enough time to rise another generation of new cubs.

Most coalitions, young or old, spend 2-3 years with certain pride anyways, which is rising 1 generation of cubs there, before going elsewhere.

Ndhzengas where very young in late 2021, and they abandon Styx and SP after ~1 year, leaving their offspring unprotected.

So being young coalition doesnt mean they will be long time with the certain pride.

Yes, they would prob abandon Kambulas in this scenario, as they are 3 yrs now with them, so they might chose to sire new offspring in another pride, over 2nd generation in Kambula.

The issue with that is that they've already started to sire their 2nd generation with the Kambulas - K5 has her 4 cubs and it's rumoured that K7 also has new cubs. As you said the bulk of the Kambula pride would probably be fine, as most of that offspring have reached their sub-adult stage, but these new cubs will have very small chance of survival if they're abandoned now. I would feel especially bad for K5 as she's not had the best luck with offspring/passing on her genes.

Of course K5 and K7 might then fully break away from the pride and shift their territory north, but that could then bring them into conflict with the Ntsevu pride.

No blame on the Ndzenga males as they're just doing what male lions do, why wouldn't they take this more or less unoccupied territory with 7 breeding-age, cubless females. And I agree with you, I think these two are in excellent health and I can foresee them remaining territorial for a while yet.

Yeah it'd be a shame for K5 to lose her cubs.

But she has been successful so far, no? As she has 2 adulthood offspring ( twins K6 male and K12 female ), plus one independent subadult ( one of the oldest Ndhzenga sons in the pride ).

Only "issue" is that neither of her adult offspring is expected to raise cubs anytime soon, making it doubtful they'll carry her lineage, but this is already no longer on her, she did her job well and raised all of them.

Hi. I was reading your comments. Nukhuma lionesses have been around many male lions. I did not expect the Ndzhenga male lions to come around Nukhuma lionesses. I wonder if in past when Ndzhenga and Palin camp male lions were around eachother it was over Nukhuma lionesses.

You mention seven lionesses with no cubs. I thought two or three lionesses had cubs?

I wonder how Ndzhenga male lions will behave. Male lions maybe will go with stronger Kambula lionesses. Like plain camp male lions Ndzhenga male lions maybe prefer to be with Kambula lionesses? If Kambula lionesses split I wonder what will happen. I was hoping maybe Kambula lionesses Kambula five and Kambula seven maybe could go with Nestuvo lionesses; Kambula five sisters. I thought Kambula five has some sub adults with Kambula daughters? Kambula five is also Kambula twelve mother.

I wonder. Ndzhenga male lions maybe love Kambula lions like plain camp male lions love Ximhunguwe lioness.

Nukhuma lionesses are younger. Wonder if lionesses being younger may help Ndzhenga male lions.

Matimba male lions were around elleven twelve when they were with lionesses in west.

Ndzhenga lions in north may surround male lions around Kambula lionesses with different male lions. Seems if Ndzhenga male lions go to north it may be good Nukhuma lionesses. Ndzhenga youngest cubs are Nestuvo lions, Kambula five and if Kambula seven had cubs are youngest cubs of Ndzhenga male lions.

New MalaMala report, I can't post the actual reports here, only the link, as I'm on mobile, but if someone can be nice enough to post the contents in their respective threads, know you're appreciated!

Anyways, Kruger and mohawk-maned BDM chasing an unknown young male who tried to interact with them and the NK pride, Kruger was roaring and aggressive.

Could this young male be the NK young male?

The other BDM was with Avoca in MalaMala while hia brother was also in MalaMala further north. Incredible, it seems they can really end meeting up. But if the Kruger male is with "his" BDM, the chances the encounter ends well will be little to none as Avoca and "his" BDM doesn't know the Kruger male. The limping BDM will have a better chance if he meets his brother and Avoca alone.

That aside, MalaMala reports 2 fierce clashes between 3 of the Nkuhlu and the Gijimas last month, and although they give little detail they say they "chased each other around" in one of these clashes, so in their own territory, with females and cubs mentioned with them or nearby, it seems it wasn't one-sided and the Nkuhlu put the effort to defend their territory and pride.

The BDM with Kruger is the one with the limp??

Yeah, it's him.

Thank you buddy @BA0701, so happy that the limping BDM a got friend now.

Hey bro, didn't Krugger and limping BDM were together a while ago, and got split up because they were chased, I think by the PCMs??

Yes, Krugger and Limping BDM were chased but by the Kambulas back in October 2024, they've been together before, back and forth since about the end of August 2024. See below clip and #16,445

Only "issue" is that neither of her adult offspring is expected to raise cubs anytime soon, making it doubtful they'll carry her lineage, but this is already no longer on her, she did her job well and raised all of them.

That's why I said 'offspring/passing on her genes', precisely because as you said, it's looking doubtful whether K6 or K12 will have cubs of their own. That's a lot of 'genetic' pressure on the sub-adult Ndzenga son.

Obviously she has zero control over whether any of those three have their own cubs, but I'll paraphrase David Attenborough in Dynasties when he says that an animal only succeeds in passing on its genes when its offspring have offspring of their own. Which is why lions have as many cubs/litters as possible, because not all of their cubs that survive will succeed in having cubs of their own. Otherwise they would just stop after the first litter was raised to adulthood/independence, if that was their job done. There's a type of female octopus that dies after it has its first batch of young, but they have like 200 so there's a much higher chance of at least one of them surviving and breeding.

But that's life, Chela's only offspring is her son (one of the two Nkuhuma males in Kruger) and he now has cubs, and could have many more in the future. It can happen. The difference is K5 still has a chance to have more cubs, and just as she's had a litter of 4, she might get abandoned.

It's always possible that Ndzengas and PC males clashed over Nkuhuma lionesses, but this is the first time the Ndzenga males have shown any real interest in them, and as far as I'm aware they've always clashed in the area between their respective territories.

Aha, yes I forgot they might have had some cubs. But we haven't seen any yet, and I'm not particularly optimistic we will see any of them. That's why I said 7 cubless lionesses, as I don't really consider those cubs to be 'significant', to put it harshly.

No blame on the Ndzenga males as they're just doing what male lions do, why wouldn't they take this more or less unoccupied territory with 7 breeding-age, cubless females. And I agree with you, I think these two are in excellent health and I can foresee them remaining territorial for a while yet.

Ndzhenga youngest cubs are Nestuvo lions, Kambula five and if Kambula seven had cubs are youngest cubs of Ndzhenga male lions

Nukhuma lionesses have split? Young Nukhuma male lions is with young male lion Monwana male lion, and Southern black damn male lion maybe? Also wondering Kruger male lion has been alone is what I think got attention of male lions. Kruger male lion was around Mohawk older brother; wonder where he is if he is gone may he rest hopefully he is with brother may he rest.

Kruger male is a strong male lion. Would have had been good for Nukhuma lions, might of got Kambula male lions attention. If Mantimahle male lions also were around must be Kambula male lions and Kruger strong male lion getting attention. If Ndzhenga male lion were in north with all these male lions; Ndzhenga male lions must of seen Nukhuma lionesses.

Hopefully Ndzhenga male lions can go back with Kambula lionesses. Kambula lionesses have subadults, and Kambula five has youngest cubs and maybe Kambula seven. Also Nestuvo lionesses cubs are still young. Ndzhenga male lions could help Nukhuma lionesses and Nukhuma lionesses are younger?

Would you happen to know are Kambula lionesses younger than Nukhuma lionesses? Are Kambula Birmingham daughters older than young Avoca Nukhuma lionesses? Avoca Nukhuma daughters must be around four?
Kambula lionesses must be six, seven?

Wondering Ndzhenga male lions would go with younger lionesses, stronger lionesses? Kambula lionesses would be stronger ?

Wondering if Kambula lionesses split. How would split look like? I know Kambula five, Kambula seven are in den with cubs. Would older sub adult join them. Like Kambula five sub adult and Kambula seven subadult. Or maybe I was wondering if somehow they join Nestuvo lioneses, Kambula five join sisters. Maybe Kambula five and Kambula seven stay together. Maybe subs adults stay with three Kambula lionesses until three Kambula separate from sub adults. Or sub adult maybe get chase. Maybe Kambula lionesses or Ndzhenga male lions chase subadults.

Hopefully Ndzhenga male lions stay with Kambula lionesses and Nestuvo lionesses; their cubs are still young.
