Reminds me of the N'was, the first months they were in their new territory, they got run off by B'ham Boys, too. Tumbelas are still growing and learning. I think they were born early 2016. Plus, no need to fight over scraps if you're full or partially full. He might have gotten injured doing that before. Use good judgement. They are now mating with all the females and roam around his territory. My hope is for all of them to live in harmony together so HB can keep feeding as he gets older.... Might be wishful thinking on my part:)) You can't deny an old war veteran his just desserts! All the lionesses have been freely mating with the Tumbelas. Are all of them in oestrus? or atleast Sassy and Junior's mom? Have they been mating with HB as well? If not, and assuming HB is still alive after 3-4 months, will he accept the cubs? Their behavior puts the enire pride in danger, especially the sub-adults. How is this behavior explained?

She still looks like she's been suckling, and even if she did lose her cubs recently, it's a bit too early for her to be in estrous already. (There's also an update today that she might not have lost the cubs, after all. Things seem to change fast!) Sassy might be but she could be trying to placate them into not harming her subs. They might be in the process of a pride take-over that's very gradual, so it would make sense if she's in their good graces; they might not harm the other young lions, like her daughter, or try to kill her sons.... I have a hard time believing that they'll accept the boys, they might have to leave now. Junior and his cousins probably have to rely on periodic visits by the adults before being on their own for good. The other alternative is if Sassy runs away to form a breakaway pride, but now she's decided to throw her towel in to mate with the Tumbelas. She's either in true estrous or trying to fool them. We'll know next Feb/March which is the case if she starts to disappear to den somewhere.....
A really interesting information by Robin a ranger of MalaMala about size between S.Avoca and N.Avoca. Also mentioned to the Legendary Gowrie males. He says that the S.Avoca are still scared of the legendary Gowrie coalition.
The coalitions are all different ages. The N.Avocas have split up into the two groups. The set of two seen alot with the Nkuhuma pride and the one in the photograph always with the Talamati pride. The S.Avocas spend their time in southern Mala Mala. Still scared of the two legendary Gowrie males. The coalitions are currently split into Northern Avocas, Gowrie males in the middle and two Southern Avocas down South. There are also some youngster coming in from Sabi Sabi now. So dynamic are always changing. I can't see that comparison in your post :/ "Still scared of the two legendary Gowrie males" They probably just mean that Avocas are scared to try to expand on Birminghams territory, not knowing that Avocas in fact already expanded, just in other direction. Southern Avocas now have 3 prides under their control so they should be very content with it. |
