There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Well the 1DX2 hits hard on first chance it gets with male tiger T57 in Ranthambhore National Park on my first morning drive. ISO 1600, no noise when processed through DPP (I tried LightRoom and the profile was well off), punchy and just a lovely image of a lovely cat. Best bit was that everyone in my group was there to share it, we even did a special processing class on it afterwards. Awesome start and this afternoon got even better so more in a day or so! SENSING COMPETITORS OUT!! No this tiger is neither roaring nor growling. It is using it's tongue to sense the smell of tigers in it's area. Did you know that like other carnivores, tigers too have a Jacobson organ in the roof of their mouth. It is a pouch-like structure located directly behind the front incisors. It has two small openings that direct scent particles from the air as the tiger inhales to nerves located within the structure. The nerves then transmit the message to the olfactory region in the brain that identifies the scent.
By the way this male has the distinction of being the biggest tiger in this Tiger reserve.

@tigerluver  @sanjay

Can we rename the title to "Ranthambore Tigers" and move this thread to the Tiger section?

Just feels like it's going that way.

Sarat Talluri

A Record shot of a legendary family !!!
There was once upon a time in Ranthambore a majestic king called
" USTAD " and his family. Now it has become a fairy tail to be told to our grandchildren once we grow old.
This shot was taken when Ustad and Noor and their family of cubs were in relaxing mood in the early morning. Petting Dad: Cub was so happy to meet their dad. The movement they came together started petting him. Rest is history which all of us know.
Exif: Aperture priority with aperture 2.8, evaluative metering with exposure bias of 1 1/3, ISO 5000 yielded a shutter speed of 1/5000 on a foggy day at 7.30 am. Focal length 182 MM
Royal bengal Tiger, Tigress and their less than year cubs family, Ranthambore, Rajasthan, India. December 2014.

Pacman walking on Golden snow.
Winter in Ranthambore, the grass turns pale and the foliage becomes copper brown.
In late winters red-brown and yellow dominates due to the pre-ponderance of flame of the forest (Butea monosperma) and dhok,( Anogeissus pendula).Offering Spectacular sight to park.

Tiger Watch

The Wandering Tigers of Ranthambore!
1. T80 or Tufan ( Cyclone) touched the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh. This daring Tiger crossed the Chambal (and back) and is now roaming a 200 km area within Kaila Devi.
2. T91 or Cowboy, not because he killed cows during his phase in exile, but because he came back with an explosion inside the core area of Raj Bagh just like a Clint Eastwood original. Now he roams inside the heart of the National Park. He has travelled in MP, even injured a man and returned. He has been in the ravines of the Chambal and then finally settled in nothing less than the best area of not only the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, but the National Park!
3. T72 or Sultan is an amazing tiger who migrated 100 km away from his birthplace . Now he has settled there and even found a female in the new area. There is no such corner in Kaila Devi which he has not explored.
