Speaking from experience, a broken rib is incredibly painful, every breath excruciating. I do hope he can recover, but with his poor condition leading up to this he certainly has a tough road ahead.

I really hope that DM can fully recover from this. It doesn't seem likely with all the injuries and the rival males around, but in nature nothing is impossible. Hopefully The Avoca coalition dont lose 2 members in a month.

It sure looks pretty bad, both the beating as the videos of him after.

He seems to be walking, but the biggest problem may be that he may not be able to travel with the others like that. So unless it improves, his survival is going to very much depend on how close the next meal is going to be and whether or not they leave him some scraps. He would also be an easy prey like this.

But let's first see how he comes through the next 48 hours. There may be internal bleeding or such that still needs to take effect. And if he managed to join the others and get some rest he may look better.

Yea, he could also be easy target for hyenas in this state, hope they dont find him, getting eaten alive by hyenas is prob the worse death you can get, lets hope his appearence can still intimidate hyenas.. tough situation for him..

Yeah.
But who would have come for rescue?
Mohawk is not around.
Just five 3 yrs old subadults
They are of no match for 800 KG Black death

I know they're no match but they all were hunting together. If they had distracted for a bit the buffalos sooner, probably all of them would've escaped with minor injuries.

The fact that DM can even stand and walk after being essentially a soccer ball for those Buffaloes is a testament to how tough these lions are. Their bodies take a LOT but many times they are able to keep going. DM has had many challenges, but this will be his biggest one yet. As others have already stated there are a plethora of serious risks for him in this state, internal bleeding, inability to get food, attacks by other predators. Sad

This is going to be a tough hill to climb for DM. I hope he’s able to overcome but it’s not looking good right now.

Seems like only 4 subadults males are around.
So the fifth one is missing

What if.. what iff..

Buffalo's are not to be underestimated. They arent nicknamed widowmakers for nothing and one of the few animals that actively hunt lions.

Those kids were probably busy running for their lives themselves, regroup and then had to figure out how to get pops out of this mess.

They probably got lucky the Buffalo's got bored of beating him up themselves.

It is not about "what if", it is team work, which is how lions are able to hunt buffalos. Again. team work, DM was left alone for long time

I dont think subs where actually trying to save DM, they just prob tried to hunt again and buffaloes run away and left DM alone.

These guys are being followed by DM only for few days, a male who they even dont know that well and with who they never hang out until this point, they only encountered him few times before (regardless if he is their father, they dont know that, they see Mohawk and Blondie as their fathers), young males even attacked him.

They have 0 bond with him and litteraly no reason to save him.

As harsh as it sound, they see him only as a bourden and prob dont want him near by..
