I do not think he was. Dreadlocks was roughly same size and Pretty Boy with Mr T not far behind.

I was talking in general about lions I know that Sabi Sands guides claimed to be very large indyviduals, larger than other lions the arena. For example Southern Matimbas and Charlestons were always described by guides as massive males in any part of Sabi Sands they showed themselfs in.

Tough to judge such thinks. There is not much informations about how would Mapogos compare in body size to other lions althrough Sabi Sabi ranger said that Mak and PB were bigger than KNP males which were massive males. I do not think "exceptionally" would be right world, but Mak should be very large lion.

I used the word exceptional due to comments of so many Rangers in videos and web posts that were along the lines of what you mentioned with the KNP males. Exceptional, in that most knowledgeable people, who were fortunate enough to witness them in person made similar statements about him.

Oh, for sure, Dreadlocks was an absolute tank, and if we were fortunate enough to have seen actual weights, it would not surprise me at all if he was the heaviest of them all.

Legit LOL'd. Yes, helpful to the current discussion taking place here. Anything short of that, and we are all simply expressing our opinions, and just like Hairy Belly's age, I'm afraid at this point that is all this particular conversation will be. Educated opinions, in some cases, but opinions nonetheless.

Ok, I just wanted to check. There is tremendous knowledge on lions in this forum, including yours, so I didn't know if perhaps there was one in particular that is known to have been a monster above all others, or if it was simply a general comment. But, yes I agree as well, there will always be a bigger lion somewhere, either previously, currently, or even in the future.

I couldn't be more agree with the words about Dreadlocks Mapogo. He was a formidable beast. the size of his head and paws was AMAZING and EXTREMELY big! He was the leader alongside Makhulu. 
Dreadlock also was the father of the cub named "The Super Cub"

Which pride was "Super Cub" born into, and what happened to him? These pictures, especially the bottom one, are perfect examples of what my preferred body type is for lions. Dreadlocks literally looks like he could walk through a brick wall in that image. including that absolutely huge head of his. Still cannot believe he got poached, remove the human intervention from the equation, and who knows how things might have turned out.

I understand everyones points. That even guides are not always going to be accurate. In regards to the Southern Avocas. I've heard 2 people be impressed by them recently. Ranger Nic Nel and now Legends Safaris so I don't know how many people want to take them literally but in regards to the Birminghams, there have been so many. The Mala Mala Guides on live said the Gowries are the most Impressive, Nic Nel said they are the most impressive, 2 Singita rangers said so and both agreed, Zaheer Ali photographer said it to me as well, Legend Safaris, I'm pretty sure James Tyrell said it as well, Nkorho recently said on live when calling the Fourways Pride Males massive that it reminded them of the Birminghams when they were in the area and Nkorho sees all 3 Avoca including DM, Flipside Wildlife Photography said it to me and I'm pretty sure he wrote it on one of his facebook posts that the Birminghams are some of the most impressive lions he has seen and he has photographed many male lions( will put Facebook link below for face book users). So that's 10 actual sources of people saying they are impressive males right? Also recently on the Manyelthi channel, the guide spoke about the incredible genes of the Birmingham Pride and their size and mentioned the Birmingham Males as well. The Birmingham Boys sister are also huge lionesses, the Birmingham Lionesses and Nharu are quite large. The oldest Nharu 3 lionesses are relative to Red Road and he is a big boy. I've also heard the Tailless Birmingham that leads the breakaway who is a sister of the Birminghams is a very big female. So all this together makes me think that all these people must be impressed by the Bboys. Reply

The most immperssive do not need to mean the largest, but for example the best looking or with biggest manes. Moreover we talk about dirrect comparisons to other lions, about which lion is more imperessive in terms of body size.. Reply

It's definitely about size, cmon. Even Legend Safaris, I simply asked them which lions impressed them. I asked nothing about size or looks, they said Nhenha is huge and the largest and the S Avocas... Etc. I also know for a fact that Flipside Photography was speaking about size because we were having a conversation about it and he chimed in. Reply

I did not say Nhanha is tiny. I just questioned that he is larger than DM Avoca and I backed up that claim with opinion of two Djuma guides. Reply

We didn't have shot from close, so its hard to tell who they are, but based of location and age of this males, they might be 2 s36/Mantimahle males.
