There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

2 coalitions fighting . difficult to distinguish the sides but i'm guessing it was 3 vs 4 because it was fairly even

¡SPOONER MALE!
The Royal King is on a mission,as walking on the road with intense, piercing look. All the intruders be alert.

- Note: He has a partner/brother and both are dominant over the CENTRAL PRIDE which is very big pride and they rule on a very big territory in the central region of Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa.

Do you know this lion ?

" RIP KING SHANE?

2003-2020
It is with tremendous sadness we have to tell you all that our precious King Shane has very sadly passed away. As you all know, he was an elderly gentleman at 17yrs old and has recently been suffering the effects of old age, arthritis and weight loss even though he was eating well. He has been on medication for months to try ease his condition. In this last week he had deteriorated further and was having difficulty walking. We made a decision to get our vet to come and check him over in case there was anything else we could do to help him. Whilst Shane was sedated our vet gave him a physical examination & advised the kindest thing we could do for him would be to euthanise him so that he doesn’t suffer or have pain. We were with him at the very end on Monday and that evening GG was deathly quiet without one roar to be heard. The other lions all just knew. ?
Alex & Tonga are very clearly missing his presence.
We are all beyond devastated to have to say goodbye to the most lovely & special lion Shaney. We are forever grateful for being able to have been a part of his life, and we have laid him to rest in a special place with the dignity and respect Shane & all lions deserve. We will all miss you every day & never forget you Shane, you taught us all so much. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close ???
The next few days will be dedicated to the life and adventures of our vehicle loving King. "

Nelis Wolmarans: " I do enjoy photographing and spending time with Gorillas and I think my Instagram account shows that. I have to admit though, and I am sure many a photographer will agree, that there is something exceptionally exciting and thrilling about photographing a big male lion in beautiful golden light... "

Nelis Wolmarans: " On patrol... Fully mature male lions do make for some of the most captivating subjects to photograph. I have a lot of respect for these big males. To reach maturity is a tough journey for male lions and especially during the period when they are ousted from their birth pride and now have to fend for themselves. This is more so a tough period for single young males. They are often on the move, avoiding clashes with other pride males, constantly trespassing through someone else’s territory. During this period, stealing meals from other predators can make up a substantial part of their diet and this can be vital to their survival. Should they survive, this is also the period during which they develop physically, gain strength and courage. Respect! "
