I found this article by Ralph Maughan !

Man charged with killing Yellowstone Wolf no. 10
5/17/95.

Quote:
Quote:
For the first time ever, a charge has been brought against someone for killing an endangered wolf in the Northern Rockies.
Chad McKittrick of Red Lodge, Montana, has been charged with killing the alpha male of the Rose Creek Pack (wolf number 10). The wolf was one of 14 that were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park last January.
McKittrick is a 42-year old unemployed carpenter. Affidavits filed in support of the charge said a hunting buddy told federal agents he saw McKittrick shoot the wolf. There has been an $11,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the wolf killer.
McKittrick told the "Jackson Hole News" that he thought he was shooting at a dog or a coyote. Federal agents found the head and hide of the 120 pound wolf at McKittrick's house.
The alpha female (no. 9) is still apparently on private land near Red Lodge, Montana with her 8 pups. Although the landower was reported in the media to be "happy" to have the wolf and her pups on his land, a news report in the Idaho Falls "Post Register" Monday said that this was not so.
The landowner has been offered $5000 by the private group, "Defenders of Wildlife" to leave the mother and pups alone and allow them to use his land. There is much discussion by the wolf program that the wolves should be moved back to the still-intact Rose Creek pen in the Park.

He got 6 months of prison !

Wolf 34M (The First Alpha Male of Chief Joseph)

Excelent information, congratulations!!!

Just one little question about this male wolf. The information says a weight of "75 lb as an alpha male". Is there an error in that figure? Maybe is 175 lb?

I did some research, and I found a more plausible and realistic weight for the alpha male from a 1996 report of Ralph Maughan (An extremely reliable expert and reporter)

106 lbs. Which is 48.08 kg.

"755M .. Spent an intimate Memorial weekend morning with this amazing wolf amid the tranquil and serene waters of the Yellowstone River. Did you know that 755M (former mate to the famous 06 alpha female of the Lamar Canyon Pack and current mate to the alpha female of the Wapiti Lake Pack - the daughter of the Canyon Pack's white alpha female) is the only alpha male in Yellowstone's 21-year history of wolf reintroduction to be the founder of two different wolf packs? I’ve followed the triumphs and challenges of this wolf since 2010 and rejoice each time we meet again! Come join us and schedule your intimate adventure at http://www.wolftracker.com!"

- Yellowstone Wolf Tracker

WAPITI WOLVES - MOTHER & DAUGHTER ... Spent most of a morning recently along the shoreline of the Yellowstone River in Hayden Valley with the ever-whitening alpha female of the Wapiti Lake Pack and her yearling daughter. Both the mother and daughter are gray wolves, but the mother carries the genes of the white matriarchs before her, and her coat whitens seemingly with each passing month. The white matriarchs before her are her mother, the 11-year-old alpha female of the Canyon Pack and part of the oldest mated pair in the history of reintroduced Yellowstone wolves (9 years and counting), and her grandmother, the famous alpha female 540F of the Hayden Valley Pack .. the whitest of them all!

HONORING 926F

"Wolf #926F of the Lamar Canyon Pack was recently legally shot by a hunter when the pack was outside of the protection of Yellowstone Park, near Cooke City, Montana. We are sure that wildlife enthusiasts worldwide, like us, are deeply saddened by the news. Wolf #926F was the daughter of the “06 Female, that was the subject of the book American Wolf. The ‘06 Female was shot by a hunter in Wyoming in 2012. These cases emphasize the need to end hunting of wolves on the boundary of Yellowstone Park where they are so highly valued.

"I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Wapiti Lake Pack wolves crossing the road today and I was surprised to see how much the white female (1st picture) looks like her mother (2nd picture). Following in her mother’s and grandmother’s footsteps this white wolf is the alpha female of her pack and under her reign they have controlled the interior of Yellowstone for several years. ?"

From the Book : "Charting Yellowstone Wolves (25TH ANNIVERSARY)"

Numbers not utilized

  • "Wolf #1 was tagged with an red ear tag as a yearling to go to Yellowstone... Blue ear tags went to Idaho." However, the plan was to send the adults to Yellowstone and the yearlings to Idaho. So when they realized that the wolf #1 was a yearling, they remove the ear tag and destroyed it.

*Note* : I transferred this thread to my forum : The Domain of the Wolf and updated and added many informations from the multiples sources I red. Hope it is understandable.  Also, there is a problem with the spacing between texts sometimes which i can't fix. Sorry for the inconvenience it might cause.

Although all the informations are based from my review, searches and documentation of my searches on the Internet, some informations can be, and are, inaccurate due to new papers coming out, new genetics analyses, etc etc.
