Matkasur’s (T54) reign has come to an end. He has been ousted by Tala (T100 or T101, there is a slight confusion) one of the sons of Dewada male (Rudra T103 being the other son and the dominating sibling).
Tala had been encroaching upon Matkasur’s territory since December and also mated with Maya (T12), Matkasur’s mate of a few years. Her new litter is probably fathered by Tala (although one can’t be sure as Maya mates with a few males to ensure the cubs’ protection). Here he is in the Tadoba range relaxing in a lake where Matkasur was sighted a month back: Skip to 8:00 mark on the video

A Mughal painting of a Dervish with the 2 species (the yellow cat appears to have stripes, rather than rosettes, plus it's as big as the brown cat) at the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, circa 1650 (during the reign of Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal, and had hunted lions in the area of Burhanpur, in what is now Madhya Pradesh, so I assume that this painting was from Central India): https://wildfact.com/forum/topic-lions-a...#pid121981
