Until The Dust Settles The Matshaphiri Male returns to Mala Mala Game Reserve. It is merely a matter of time until the next dominant male reveals himself and takes over the central parts of the reserve. It is simply a numbers game and it's not over yet.

MALAMALA TODAY: September 11th. The days highlights centered around the lone Matshapiri male who was found in the Sand River near West Street Bridge. The female cub of the Kikilezi female was less fortunate when, impressively, she killed an impala a few hundred meters north of the lion. Hyenas were quickly on the scene and stole the kill. The Matshipiri male heard the commotion and wasted no time in getting there. As he charged in he didn't notice the young leopard and literally ran past her, within centimeters! The hyenas were promptly relieved of the carcass. Other lion sightings: the 6 lioness of the Kambula pride and a Manyelethi male are in the Sand River south of Charleston North.
Battle scars shown on the face of this tough male Matshapiri lion back on June 11th in @londolozi. It's literally a battle for survival out there in the bush. Credits: MasonSharpePhotos

MALAMALA TODAY (and yesterday): September 23rd-24th. Lions: The lone Matshipiri male is back with the Kambula pride. On Saturday we found them together near Tslebe Rocks and they'd just finished off a buffalo kill- by Sunday they'd moved into the lower reaches of the Mlowathi River. The Matshipiri male kept on looking northwards with a degree of nervousness- overnight we'd heard another male roaring in that area.
A hard lion. He has alone. He is surrounded by enemies coalitions of males lions and he is being able to survive and mate. A magnificent animal in my opinion.
