The Lions of Ngala - The Matimba Males

"We are sad to announce the passing of one of the two remaining Matimba Males. We have just seen one of the Males of late. One brother has been looking increasingly frail. And about 3 weeks ago we watched the two surviving brothers roaring, one was still strong but skinny. The other could barely breath and could not roar. Track of some Male Lions followed them across our boundary and maybe a week ago, we found the stronger bfother alone, without any signs of his weaker brother. We suspect the weaker brother has been killed by the newest coalition in the area known as the Avoca Pride, somewhere east on Ngala in the Kruger." - Michael Anderson, Ngala Ranger ( Feb 17, 2017)

Only One Northern Matimba is left, hope he meets his brothers.. Unlikely though

On the afternoon of the 19th, a lone big male Lion was found on Xiskankanka road, who we suspect is the Hairy belly matimba. He had a Buffalo kill.


Yesterday morning, the lone Male Lion was still on his Buffalo kill on Xiskankanka road.

seems like 2017 is going pretty tough for all 3 old coalitions of sabi sands (majingilanes, selatis and matimbas)

Are HB and Ginger back together? Does anyone know where they are right now? On the one phote posted above HB seems to have a full belly..are they in good condition?
