Charleston male with a snare on his neck!
"This male lion has a snare around its neck most probably placed by poachers on the fringes of Kruger National Park. Several cars of people were warching two male lions crossind the road but I was able to see there is a snare only after I zoomed my photo to see why this lion has a grim face, his lips looked swollen and saliva was driping from its mouth. We turned back and rushed to the nearest rangers' post to report it. Hopefully it was saved. This time..."

Nice find! He looks like his father too. It would be nice if he had a brother the same age so they can form a stable coalition.
The main roads in The Kruger National Park can be a bit busy at times, and one can get the feeling that it’s rather difficult to find your own sightings. We often joke and say we’re just looking for a traffic jam and then we’ll know we’ve found something!
However on our recent trip to the KNP the tar roads did reward us with some of our best sightings which saw us being the lucky ones in the right place at the right time. This massive male lion and his brother were one such sighting as they walked through the bush and right in front of us, before they started roaring loudly. We were able to enjoy them by ourselves before a few other cars joined the show.
We also found a civet, wild dogs and a pair of leopards whilst on the main roads without any other cars around.
It seems our timing was on this time!
But we always say, the more time you spend in the bush the luckier you get!

Big Boy Charleston male seen recently. Male lion on the S65. He was seen with a lioness (seems like she is blind in the one eye) and a cub. They were later joined by a younger male after a series of roars and contact calling between the lioness and the young male, which I can only guess must be from a previous litter and this male is most probably the father. But this older male did not welcome the presence of the younger male and kept moving in between him and the lioness and at one stage got into a brief "scuffle" with one another Image by: Dusty's Photography
