The cougar skull actually belongs to a female according to @epaiva; he posted this in the 'Modern Weights and Measurements of Jaguars' thread (link):

"Jaguar and Puma Skull from the same Region Estado Cojedes in the Venezuelan Llanos, Puma Skull measures 17,5 cm long 12,5 cm wide, female.  Museo de Zoologia de Facultad de Ciencias de la UCV, Caracas, Venezuela"

The source I got it from who is Epaiva himself said it was a male and judging by its size that's most likely the case.

Hi Epaiva, would you be kind enough to confirm the sex of the cougar skull?

I had to share this photo here. Because many times people see photos and videos about big cats on hind legs and then there is often a female zookeeper feeding it and big cat looks gigantic and people start to comment "wow, that is HUGE and it has to be at least 300 kg and some go over the top with 400 kg". This is often the case when someone who likes a lot of tigers or lions share photos or short video clips on youtube channels and try to "explain" to viewers how HUUUGE some big cat is.

I remember for instance one such clip in which zookeeper is feeding a tiger and she says, that she is herself 150-155 cm tall (I don´t remember exactly, but between those numbers anyway). So naturally big cat was looking very big in comparison.

So I decided to put some photos to remind, that when looking at some videos and photos it´s good to keep in mind, that it should be understood and known what is compared to what. Results in photos and videos can look very different depending on it, what is seen there. It´s no miracle, that a 200 kg big cat looks like a true giant in comparison with short people. Then again if we would put there some tall man also weighing around 200 kg, it could and would look quite different. Even though biggest big cats are still very big.

When looking at this first photo it´s good to remember, that we humans are more slender when seen from side, while big cats show from same perspective themselves as wide as their body can be. So to be more comparable, this man should be facing camera. Or then we should have big cat seen from behind, when they are quite slender when compared to side view.

Anyway, this man, Olivier Richters is 218 cm tall, so he is very comparable with average tiger on hind legs. Also look at their hands, another good example, that when looking at paws of some animal, it´s good to remember that to what it´s compared. Richters weight is told to be 150 kg.

Some photos to compare with:

In this man is told to be 6 ft 4, so 193 cm.

And some photos to show, that we should always know to what we are comparing:
