There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

About #898: What a beautiful male lion !

But I don't understand his nickname "Lipstick". Were his lips particularly red when he was young ?

Don't know. They are known as 4KM males. 2 of them died/disappeared.
Only 2 are left. Blackie is his partner.
Both of them has very very beautiful black manes.
Arguably the best manes in Masai Mara

I think it's because of the dark mark below his lower lip.

This was taken at the end of August 2016. There was an attempted takeover by some subadults. I'm not sure if this is Karibu or Rafiki. Can anyone ID?

From Mara Lion Project
One of the KWS males at the black rock near Keekorok looks satisfied after scanning the territory from the top of a copje as a lioness suckles cubs below the rock.
