We found the old male lion Boxernose in Naboisho Conservancy recently and he is not looking his best. He is very skinny and is probably not able to hunt very well. He had a few porcupine quills stuck in him and so he is going after anything he can.

We assume he must have lost a face off with other males, separating him from Earless and their pride and making Boxernose shoot all the way to Naboisho. Today we tried to find out what has happened to the cubs and the rest of the pride the two males were with, but we were not able to access the area due to floods.

Update on Boxernose:

We finally found Boxernose again and he had managed to scavenge a zebra carcass. The vet decided to immobilise him and tend to his wounds. He had deep wounds on his back due to fighting with other males. He also had hernia most likely caused by a buffalo encounter.

There is nothing much more we can do for him and it is best now that we leave him be. He is an old lion and has done his job of rearing cubs and spreading his genes. It's tough being a male lion especially after being evicted from a pride at that age.

We are still on the lookout for Earless and their pride. We will keep you updated as we get more information.

Hoping boxernose may recover from his wounds and live longer. Alone and injured is not good. He is far from earless and the pride. Hope they are okay too. A male lions life is a harsh one.

News from Earless/observation pride

Boxer nose is still hanging around Naboisho while Earless have gone missing. Yesterday we sighted 3 of the females with 2 female cubs west of rocky valley. They had been in a fight that morning. Other cubs were sighted hiding. Rocky pride cubs were sighted also hiding. From this we infer that rocky pride were fighting with the observation pride. Just on the same day, in their territory in Rongai area; a young male from Morijo coalition is mating with a young female from Rongai pride while being watched close by another young male.

Earless today. He is ok but has a lot of injuries and his partner Boxernose is far away and in not good condition. A lot of lion fights at the moment.

@Tshokwane :

About #1272: Even wounded Earless is still impressive... Of course I just see these lions through short videos, but I believe Earless is the most impressive ones, he is undoubtely very burly (well-built).
