There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Didn't someone say that Nhenha and the NK male are coming back to the Western sector?

Yes,   Several have reported that they’re back in WS territories.

I hope the Othawa pride can avoid them safely.

Its unlikely all 3 subs got caught or killed, maybe all 3 are fine and they just got separated, if thats the case, they should reunite eventually.

This is purely a human emotion expressed by myself and shouldn't be taken as anything else. I'm normally quite passive about lion dynamics; we're just to observe and these sorts of battles have played out over millenia, continue to do so now and will continue as long as lion kingdoms are preserved.

That said, the less dispassionate and emotional part of me wishes fervently that this Birmingham male expired after the takeover over his territory or at any point in the intervening period. At this point his continued existence and forming of a coalition has achieved nothing but harm. They're wandering around with little to show for it in terms of siring another generation and have taken the existence of an entire pride to the very brink. I'm well aware that this might be an unpopular view as he is a legend of the Sabi Sands but, yeah... not sure I'd be too perturbed when we eventually hear he's passed on to the Great Savanna in the Sky.

I know we are emotional, and love certain prides and lions, but this is very wrong way to look at these magnificent animals.

As you said, lions kill lions for milenia's, Nhenha isnt doing anything what other lion wouldn't do, so whishing his "end" because he is a lion and is trying his best to see another day in the wild, is wrong. He too lost his offspring to another males, males who would kill him also if they had a chance.

Lions are killing machines, their "society" operaters like that, if you are not part of the same group or potential mate, you will be attacked and killed, thats how it is, they are animals, and not "moral" beings.

In the end, nature balance it self, lion population balances itself, where would we be if every litter of cubs, every sub, gets to adulthood? Its not sustainable.

Prides rise and fall over decades, days of glory for Sparta, Southern Pride, Tsalala, Ximhungwe, Othawa etc. prides are behind us, instead "newer" prides rised like Nkuhumas, Mhangenis, Kambulas, Torchwoods, Talamatis,  etc..

We all want that every pride "succeed" and have big and healthy numbers, but that can't work, some need to fall for another to rise..
