There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

@Shadow

What I still find incredible is that notch2 is still muscular and not bony at this age.

Yes and how he found this young guy to make a coalition is interesting. While story of Notch is quite unique, Notch2 seems to show also quite special things what comes to life of a lion. While many others coalitions like Mapogos etc. are interesting, I personally find Notch and his sons the most interesting. Extraordinary lions in so many ways.

Perhaps notch2 learned from his father notch, that teaming up with his sons is a good thing and not a detriment. Which is probably why he is still around.

Are we talking now about same Caesar in Freak specimens thread? I mean this Caesar mentioned here, one of Notches and considered as one of the biggest lions of Maasai Mara when he was alive.

Here one quote:
"My favorite lions from this coalition are clearly Notch 2 and Caesar, due to their size and handsomeness. Caesar seems to be the biggest of them all, and in my opinion had also the prettiest face."

Hey @Shadow,thanks for clarification,I thought Ron was the biggest lion. When I looked images of Caesar. His build blew me away!an absolute TANK.
In case of Caesar,He should not be less than 240 kg.Definitely one of the biggest lions.

I have seen claims, that Caesar would have been the biggest lion in Maasai Mara ever. Or in time, which people alive can remember. There are also some comments, that he would have been weighed to  have been 284 kg, but looks like impossible to know for sure. No-one seems to be able to tell who and when would have done that weighing so that is at the moment just a rumor, imo.

Then again he has been treated by veterinary team at least once, so those people might be able to give some information if contacted, who knows. Here is report, in which also Caesar is mentioned. I´m not sure if posted before.

Quote:
"CASE#1 INJURED LION
Date: 7th June 2017
Species: African lion
Sex: Male
Age: Adult
Location: Lookout area (Masai Mara National Reserve)
History
This lion, christened Caesar, is son to the famous Notch who during his prime took over most lion prides in the Masai Mara. Caesar and his brother are the known remaining sons of Notch but are now advanced in age."

They don´t mention anything about weighing during this operation though. I guess, that if that has happened, it has to have been some other time.
I somewhere read that he lost a testicle. Is that true?

I have never seen that kind of thing mentioned. But internet is full of discussion forums and many of those spread a lot of rumors based on nothing. Caesar is one of those lions, which are assumed to have died because of old age and in these photos he seemed to have had all there. If you have seen that told in some discussion I wouldn´t give too much value for such claim unless there is something more to back it up. Maybe someone has seen this report, which I shared and made wrong conclusions. Or wanted to spread misinformation on purpose. That happens a lot in forums where lion fanatics or tiger fanatics are talking with each others.

Clement Wild: " Its one year since Cecil the Lion was killed. The Lion that caused a global #uproar that reached millions. However its sad that trophy hunting still goes on in some countries. It pains me because i know what odds a Lion goes through to become King for a human to come and end all that glory for no reason at all. To the rest of the Kings left in the wild like King Notch II photographed above, i salute you! "
