are the jaguars of the Atlantic forests shown here on an empty stomach?

Unfortunately most of them don't share that detail.

But this is a serious problem. An ounce swallows 15 20 kilos of meat will present a large weight even if it is smaller. Example an ounce of 70 pounds eating 20 pounds of meat will result in weighing in at 90 pounds. If you weigh 90 it will result in weighing 110 kilos.

The contents of the stomach should be assessed by the extent of the abdomen as is done with leopards.

We don't know if they are really full and in this case that method should be applied to ALL cats and other carnivores then, and even if they were full it doesn't mean they will always weight the same as they used to when they get empty again. it will be a tricky task by eyes to always try to figure out whats in their bellies unless you really do find out what's in it and how heavy the content is, other than that we can only guess whether they're full or not which will most of the times be inaccurate guesses due to the fact of jaguars being broad cats by nature.

Cristian Dimitrius blog http://diveadventures.blogspot.com/2010/07/captura-da-onca-pintada.html

Pantanal female estimated to be 70 kg before they captured her, but after the capture measuring and weighing her unfortunately Cristian didn't state her true weight on his blog, by the photos she looks almost nearing an average sized pantanal female of 76 kg but who knows how big she truly is Don't know

Here we have another Santander jaguar who weighed 110 kg and was captured by ranchers

*This image is copyright of its original author

The jaguar was responsible for killing three calves and an adult mule, thankfully it wasn't hurt besides head scratches and was released into the wild.

These Santander jaguars are big, 136 kg and 110 kg. Colombia has big jaguars not only in the Llanos it seems.

Hi epaiva, I'm originally from Colombia myself ad I've been to the Llanos before. I'm aware that the jaguars in the Llanos region among both countries are the same, I have posted plenty of images of Colombian Llanos jaguars on here as there has been a recent surge of tracking for this animals and I noticed it wasn't being covered in this forum.

Santander is not located in the Llanos though, as a province it is part of the Andes region. These jaguars live by the foothills of the Andes and appear to get really big. I'm looking forward to posting more about them as I track more information and organizations like Panthera Colombia release more data.

Nice article of Onçafari from 2012.

Check the pages of the link above ( in portuguese ) but I am gonna take a few screenshots to make it easier to see it.

One part of page 5 it says.

''In October 2011 the team got 2 beautiful jaguars: the female baptized Chuva with 85kg ( which after receiving the collar gave birth ) and Nati a magnificent 110kg male.''

One more Pantanal jaguar check page 6, 7 and 8 of the link:

'' Look at that, the transmitter hadn't charged anything!  Mario and Joares come face to face with his figure of surprise. Joares first thought against the light that it could be a large tapir, it was going to be a big struggle to get it out! But it was Brazuca, a majestic 112kg male, lying there. ''

''Last Thursday, April 4th 2012, a new Male Jaguar that lives at Caiman Ecological Refuge was added to the Project.

Weighing 112KG (approximately 247lbs.) he was sedated and given a GPS/Satellite collar. Various measurements where taken from his body, head, teeth and etc. in order to be studied by specialists. A blood sample was also taken from him in order to study his DNA.

Along with Chuva and Nati this new member of the Project will give us insights into the lives of Jaguars that will be used to better protect this magnificent Species.''

This is amazing information, and Nati male doesn't even look fully grown, if I had to guess his weight based on that picture I would've said 70-80 kg. Makes me wonder how much those robust males in Argentina like Sixto or Baqueano are weighing at for example

The only way to truly find out the measurements of the jags you mentioned is by really capturing them.

Nati in that pic could possibly be younger than when he was captured with 110 kilos and could indeed be larger if captured again but remember this article was from 2012 he was captured in early November 2011 and neither Nati nor Brazuca were very habituated males to the Refúgio Ecológico Caiman.

Projeto Onça Pantaneira

''Once again the project team set up a wait expecting to capture the culprit jaguar of the attack. Around 23:12 PM the jaguar returned to feed and got anesthetized on the spot. To the teams surprise the Jag was a big 110kg male. The capture procedures lasted until the dead of night ( Madruga or Madrugada ). This fact led the team to baptize him with the name Madruga. Madruga has been monitored ever since.''

'' The project is yet expecting to capture 2 more jaguars to complete the initial goal of monitoring 10 jaguars with GPS transmitter radios. Among the animals captured in July, the highlight is the largest male captured so far by the Project team. About seven years old the large male weighed 128kg and was found after preying on a heifer at Nossa Senhora do Carmo farm neighboring the São Bento farm and which has been giving great support to the project's activities in the region.''

According to the report, this sub-adult captive jaguar weighed 90 kg at only 18 months of age. He's one of the Santander jaguars I have posted before, he must be in his prime right now so I wonder how much he weighs now that he's older but I'm sure over 100 kg.

I was in contact with the fantastic brazilian project ''Onças do Iguaçú'' and they kindly provided me the weight of Tarobá atlantic forest male.

Tarobá male weights 81 kilos when he was captured.

He was captured in June last year.

Lask week his collar fell off his neck and Onças do Iguaçú team had to collect it in the Atlantic Forest wilderness they were very worried and concerned on the possibility of Tarobá being poached, but it turned out only the collar was found thank God and he is fine, I assume it was possibly due to musculature growth ''girth'' of his neck.

For a comparison Tarobá is 8 kilos larger than Croissant atlantic forest male 73kg, Croissant is another atlantic forest male captured and monitored by Onças do Iguaçú project as well.

this bruised male weights around 100kg and got ran over possibly by boat.

"We received the animal on Monday night (7) and we are conducting tests. It is an adult, weighing about 100 kilos. We will do all the necessary exams to make a safe diagnosis for the animal," said the veterinarian. The feline was located in the Miranda River in the region of Passo da Lontra, which was with the back wounded and with difficulties of locomotion.''

''According to information from people living in the region of Passo da Lontra, the animal would have been run over by a boat.''

''Last week, the CRAS also received a Puma captured on the banks of the Rio Dourados, in the region of Fátima do Sul. The cat was trapped in the trap of hunters.

According to the CRAS veterinarian, the feline is recovering well and has regained weight. After his rehabilitation, he will undergo surgery to remove his front paw. She will be sent to Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), to an NGO that takes care of cats.''
