There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

This individual have a very robust skull structure, it was concave-shaped almost like the skull of a brown bear.

Is there something wrong with that jaguar. Looks like swollen jaws, that looks odd for me. Maybe injured in some fight so, that jaws looking abnormal and bigger than normally because lower jaws swollen? Slightly dislocated jaws or strain in jaw muscles?
There's nothing wrong with that jaguar. Big jaws are part of their morphology, he has its mouth open to cool down.

This is partial explanation why it looks so odd:

"One morning I ran into a collared jaguar panting with saliva dripping from the mouth.  It appeared stressed by the tracking collar.  These collars carry telemetry devices to track the animal movements; some are able to monitor physiological and environmental parameters too. While watching the jaguar, the guide told me that 3 collared jaguars were recently found dead. The rumor was that the lost of these endangered cats was caused for having the collars to tight.

There appears to be various groups involved in collaring jaguars in the Pantanal; but it was not clear if the responsible culprits were private individuals, environmental private groups or government agencies.  A wildlife management friend confirmed that it is critical how these collars are fitted to the animals, if too tight, they may cause problems.  And these are not just limited to physiological burdens but may also induce behavioral changes. "

It reminded me immediately about one lion, which had some kind of tumor in his mouth and... that lower lip etc. Well, it´s from 2011 so most likely we´ll never know the story of this jaguar completely. But if someone can provide some information it would be very interesting to see.

That lower lip looks odd, I don´t remember seeing something like that usually. I still think, that maybe there is some kind of injury. Is there more information about this particular jaguar, more photos? Maybe he just have unique jaws...
The lips is normal, it may look odd to you because its mouth is open so it hangs lower but that's doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.

Large males have large lips in general, you can see it here in this picture one from behind:

Despite that photo, I´m not convinced if I don´t see similar photo somewhere else. I´ve seen a lot of jaguar photos but this made me to think instantly like "what is wrong with it?".

Amazingly matched, jaguars and tigers are IMO the most robust of the big cats:
