The avoca males are bigger and stronger. to tell the true, these adult avocas tried already to take over the thanda imp males territory but they failed. the thanda imp males won the fight and could keep their territory. i remember that tintswalo lodge bet that the avocas would take over the area cause they are very big males. but different from the expectations, the thanda imps defeated them. after that fight the avocas never more tried to take over the central parts of manyeleti. skorro male is an agressive dominant male. looks like he fight very well!

About #419: What a hunt ! What a formidable male lion ! I'm completely staggered to see him attaking the whole buffalo herd and killing one beast... But that was dangerous for the observers too ! The herd in total panic would have been able to crash into a vehicle. 
Holy crap that was badass. Ans how terrifying would it be in that jeep and seeing that herd running at you, literally for their lives.

Plus the thanda impi male sizzani is in weak condition. The guys found one of the Avoca male Lions, looking quite badly beaten up. The Thanda Impi males, were then found with the Mbiri pride, only a short distance away on Catwalk west. They seem to have timed their move very well, finding the much larger Avoca male without his brother. Relying on team work to secure their territory! The mark of a successful coalition of male Lions...The Thanda Impi’s had double teamed him, and he had an injured eye and some serious looking bite marks on his back legs. One thing for them is scaring away 2 males in the border of the land, and another different is doing it in the very core of their territory, where they would have the advantage. You need to keep in mind that lions, like most animals, try to minimize the risk of injury, so if they can chase them away without an actual fight, they will try to do so. Safari Update The last couple of days the Mbiri pride has been quite stationary in the Northern section of the Thanda Impi male lions territory. The only change to the prides condition is that one of the 6 month old cubs was limping very badly from an injury to one of the front legs. The Thanda Impi male lions 'Sizanani' and ‘Scorro' has been spending most of their time with the rest of the pride, napping in close vicinity. UPDATE ON THE MACHATON MALES !!!
At the begining of june pondoro posted some info and photos of 3 males that they thought were the river pride males.a few days later they said "these three males are not the River Pride males we thought were (after not being seen for some time) but are actually males that we are not familiar with." I was able to ID only 2 of the males by looking at some old photos and comparing wiskkers and scars etc...one of the males that pondoro saw had a scar close to his right eye exactly like one of the machaton males who had the same scar for many years.after comparing the wiskkers of the first male and the 2nd male with older photos i was 100% sure it was indeed at least 2 of the machaton males .as for the 3rd male i couldnt tell who it was couse the photo was not good enough to compare.so i asked some of the guides in balule to send me photos of the 3rd male if and when theyll see the males next. About 10 days ago Karl van der Westhuizen sent me clear photos of the 3rd male(right side and left side of the face),and after comparing with older photos it was indeed the 3rd machaton male. Im not sure as to where the 4th machaton male is couse in the last 2 months or so there were sightings of only the 3 males In balule as far as i know,and it is most likely that the machaton males were the ones who had the fight with the big mohlabetsi male recently although no one actually witness the fight. The photos below are of the 3 machaton males old with recent. Wow the Machonton males are very confident males going against 8 males. And there confidence will be greater when the 4th males is with them.

"The highlight of the Lion sightings were the 4 Avoca/Giraffe male Lions that made their way deep into the Thanda Impi’s territory 2 days ago! They were sent marking and vocalising constantly not hiding their intentions. These males were sniffing the area of Windy/Windy rd where the Mbiri lionesses and the cubs were hanging around on a regular base the last few weeks. Luckily, the Mbiri lionesses took their cubs too the far South Western corner of their territory close to the lodge. The injured Thanda Impi male ’Sizanani’ was found with the Lionesses and the cubs. The dominant Thanda Impi male Lion ‘Scorro’ was found about 200m from the 4 rivals vocalising every 10 min. The four new males were searching nonstop for Scorro and his pride. That afternoon all hell broke loose when the Avoca/giraffe males eventually found Scorro by himself and chased him relentlessly towards the East away from his own territory! Emotions were running high and we all thought that a pride take over was imminent. We lost visual of the Males and thought that this was the last of Scorro and possibly the cubs if they find them! The next morning, we found the entire Mbiri pride with both Thanda Impi males on Panicum rd close to the lodge. Scorro was without a scratch sleeping as if comatose! Was he cleverly distracting the 4 new males away from his territory by letting them chase him, and then dodge them at the last minute? Whatever happened that night, we all were amazed that he was still alive! For now, the Thanda Impi’s are still holding on whilst the Avoca /Giraffe males haven’t been seen ever since. Have they returned too the North or have they ventured towards the Southern sector of the Reserve?
