Makes sense as they try to takeover Avoca pride. Also Xikukutsus payed a visit in the arena and it would make sense if it would be caused by the Torchwood/Birmingham presence in Thornybush which is Xikukutsu/Mapoza territory.

Little Lion Cubs in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

*This image is copyright of its original author

A few years ago the Vuyela male lions made their presence known on the Africa on Foot and nThambo Tree Camp traverse. These burgeoning beasts embodied the male lion stereotype and were looking for territory to claim. They entered at the right time. The pride dynamics in this section of the Klaserie were complicated, and at the time there seemed to be a gap for a powerful coalition to take over. The Vuyelas quickly seized the opportunity to make this portion of the Klaserie their stomping grounds. Their burly bodies, lustrous manes, confidence, and sheer power quickly caught the eye of three local lionesses, who are believed to be the Ross breakaways. To cut a long story short, they all mated and now we have lion cubs in the Klaserie sired by the Vuyela Kings.

If you recall, Warick Wrede said this, “Vuyelwa/Vuyela means to come back and they are a lion pride of 9 individuals. The make-up of this pride is 5 males and 4 females. No one is sure of where these 5 males come from, but we think they came in from the Kruger National Park. The males range in age from 7 to about 9 years of age. These 5 males are very seldom seen walking together and generally, we see at the most 2 together.”

Over the past two months, we’ve received regular lion updates from Warick Wrede and guides “on the ground”. Whether it’s a sighting of two Vuyelas, the females, or the entire pride, there now appears to be regular lion sightings in the Klaserie. One of the most recent and memorable sightings includes a report from Fabien who says he followed the 5 Vuyelas to Buffeldam, where there were the Ross breakaway females. A huge scuffle with a clan of hyenas ensued, giving onlookers quite the show.

On 14th Jan, the first lion cub was spotted, and since then there have been a few more notable sightings. Because lion cubs have a high mortality rate in the wild, lionesses will ensure cubs remain relatively hidden until they are more mobile. So far, the cubs are faring well in the wild, and we expect to see more sightings of them in the coming months.

Tanda Tula update

The first morning I didn’t do a game drive last week was one of those ones that rubbed salt in the wound – after a week of checking the den site of the Mayambula Pride and seeing nothing, Ginger took his guests there and they got to see five cubs out and about!

It started with us finding fat-bellied Mayambula lionesses heading back to the den site with the two Skorro males in tow, but they didn’t bring the cubs out.  The next morning though, with bellies still full, all three mothers were there, with not five cubs, but eight!  What a sight to see after all the time spent checking and waiting at the den.  The cubs were too cute for words and sat around for a short while before the mothers led them back to the thickets.

As the week pressed on, the remaining members of the pride spent time in the vicinity of the den and we got to see the cubs a few times, but on almost all occasions they were playing in inaccessible areas on the sensitive sodic sites, so we just couldn’t get closer to get a better view.  We will however have many opportunities in the coming months to enjoy them, I am sure.  The River Pride only stayed around for a couple of days during which time they were found finishing a wildebeest kill near Machaton Dam, but they headed back north of our concession where it sounds like they continued to feed well.

A coalition of 4 unrelated 4 lions is on the way in timbavati  / thornybush area. The young giraffe male has partnered with 3 other males. These 3 young males are Guernsey male, thornybush male and moanwana male.
Only time will tell if this will be a successful coalition like mpindos Or not so successful like De la Porte.

Looks like only 1 out of 3 Thornybush /younger Monwana male is still alive .

Will be interesting to see if all 4 stay together.

It looks like it is only guess which males exactly made this coalition. It is not fact that there is only one younger Monwana male in this coalition. Also it very well could be that the young males got separated and even if we would get to see only one of the three, it doesn't mean the other 2 are dead.

Beside those 3 moanwana males ( only 1 remains now), do trilogy coalition sires any other sons ( who are alive today). These moanwana males were born in 2018 so they may be the youngest sons. Trilogy males shud have sire other sins b4 then
