After mistakenly posting this in the Mara thread, reposting here for proper placement.

RIP Sirikoi. Video just dropped about 10 mins ago, with no word on cause of death.

This old lion, Loonkito, is still going strong, and remains the dominant pride male, and according to this link he was born in 2003 making him 19 years old. I have no idea how he is doing it, but it is incredible. As mentioned in previous discussions regarding Loonkito, there is a downside to this, which is that he has now begun breeding with his granddaughters, who are the issue of his having bred with his daughters.

This is one of those YT Shorts videos (I believe, as it isn't a normal YT video), just having tried to share one for the first time, and it seems to not be shareable like normal videos. So, I have posted and tested the link, and it infact does work this way. Apologies, I hope this helps!

It boggles the mind, his longevity has to be unheard of. Can't say he has had an easy life, he was involved in the most brutal lion fight I've ever seen, and suffered really severe injuries as a result (though the other lion fared far worse, as I believe he succumbed to his injuries). So, while not having a full understanding of lion dynamics in the area, there is other lions around. I literally can't explain it. Lions who die from old age, even those who remain pride males until their deaths like DM and SN Majin, don't come close to his current age.

Male lion called Loonkito from Amboseli National Park, Kenya. He's over 18 (!) years old.

Honestly, I didn't know there were still lions in Uganda. And a famous one which inspired the Disney movie "Simba, the lion king".

I am very happy to learn it ! We never speak about Uganda, and sometimes in my memory I remind this country was gouverned by a crazy man, Idi Amin Dada during the 70s and 80s. Not a good thing to protect the wild nature ! I also remember a Barbet Schroeder movie about this dictator, and in my opinion in a such country the wild nature was a lost cause. To learn that his successors were much more advised and that, now there is a good gestion of the natural ressources is quite a good new ! Thank you !
