The tribal instinct among the South African lions is very strong.

Damn this male was lucky to make it out. The lions he fought probably had him pinned down by the looks of that neck wound.

Tough guy for sure, his mane save him there still. If all three reach their prime and inherit the cleverness of their fathers, they will be a force to reckoned with.

The Big 5 highlights of the week were to see the new cubs of the Nkuhuma pride. The young lioness took them one by one in her mouth and moved them to a new den.

21 Aug: Fourteen members of the Nkuhuma lion pride and one Birmingham male lion resting on MMM North. Looks like 3 smallest cubs are also included
22 Aug: Three lionesses from the Styx pride, their six cubs and two Birmingham male lions resting at Baboon Pan
23 Aug: Two lionesses of the Styx pride of lions resting on Lucas open area. One heavenly pregnant lioness of the Styx pride resting on Ingwe open area
26 Aug: Eight members of the Styx pride of lions walking south along the Eastern Bank Marakeni
27 Aug: Two lionesses of the Styx pride and their six cubs resting south of Mhisi Mati.

I hope Styx pride also grow their numbers with BBoys protection.

The Avoca males tried their luck in stealing the Southern Pride's prized food but quickly got taught lesson as the females aggressively chased them away!

That is good news, they just need to stay out of trouble for now. Being overconfident in the bush can get you killed.

Two of the Tsalala males were found on the elephant carcass this morning, fending off 15 hyenas and large contingent of vultures, with one of the males showing fresh wounds for his efforts.

From sabi sabi

"We have had some amazing sightings this past weekend at Sabi sabi:
The Southern Pride left the elephant carcass and just as they left, the two Tsalala males came in to feed with the two Avoca males lying not too far away.
On Saturday afternoon, we found all 3 Tsalala males together, resting at a watering hole when a large herd of Cape Buffalo came down for a drink. One of the males managed to pull down a buffalo but was chased off by the rest of the herd, giving the young buffalo enough time to recover.

Our Sunday morning started off with a commotion as the Avoca males were found fighting with one of the Tsalala’s who became submissive. The Avaco’s then turned on the other two, chasing them south and vocalising with authority. This sent the remaining Tsalala heading north away from his coalition.
While the lions turned their attention on each other, this gave the Hyenas and Vultures an opportunity to finish off the remains of the elephant carcass without too much bickering. What an incredible weekend of sightings
