I believe he should be getting close to 5, if I am not mistaken.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I can remember he will turn 3 or 4 years old this February.

I could be the one who is off, I recall it being discussed earlier in the year, and thought it was said that he was 4, then, but it may have been said that he was going to be 4.

Agreed, even @BigLion39 mentioned previously that some of the people from the conservancies are financially involved with the herders.

Looks like Floppy Ear’s first time doing the act, or atleast one of the first judging by his performance. It won’t lead to nothing in the near future unless he joins a coalition and they all claim K12, but it’s good for his experience already I guess.

S8 actually mated lioness like that (sideways) and seemed pretty confident in what he was doing. It was also maybe the very first footage of him in Manyeleti, he was also giving vehicle a piercing look despite the vehicle keeping a respectful distance. I thought at the time that him coming from Kruger he was not used to (this type of) vehicles, but he seemed well habituated since then so maybe that was not the case. (It is likely in Manyeleti thread (waaay back though) on or Tintswalos youtube channel.)

Edit: Actually while this video while doesn't show the act itself, shows bits of that video and occurrence I'm talking about  (sad he is not around anymore):

Edit 2: Found it. It was completely sideways, but unusual position and approached her laying flat for another round later (got growled at though :) ) But overall very memorable sighting.

Yeah, the channel has started blurring the actual act in newer videos, I guess Youtube didn't like displaying it.

Would recommend watching this as in this video Styx Male (Floppy Ear) is roaring in the heart of the Ndzhenga territory and the Ndzhengas gave chase on a 1 to 1 basis. Also it is believed that the Styx Male killed a Kambula subadult/cub (did not say if it is female or male that is killed) and severely injuring one of the young males.

Ndzhengas really need to push him out of their territory as it seems like Styx Male is killing their cubs and is trying to take a piece of their territory. I was also surprise that the Styx Male is full blown roaring in the territory of the Ndzhengas even when he is chased away he returns back to roaring, what a confident young male hope this confidence of him brings him good and not bad luck.

Also for K12, seems like the Ndzhengas would like to keep her as he is protecting her from another Kambula lioness. Wishing good luck for K12 as being a lone lioness is hard hoping she teams up with some lioness.

I had just seen the video. I was not expecting to see all that happened. Is strange behavior very nervous and unpredictable to what might happen.

Ndhzenga male lion did not attack when Styxt male lion was on the floor. I wonder if it is because he recognize him or Styxt male one on one may be a fight Ndhzenga male lion did not want to fight?

Also it reminded me when all Kambula, Styxt male, and four Kambula male lions were around. When Kambulas were hunting and then chased the Styxt male lion. I was wondering if that was dangerous to young Kambula cubs, sub adults.

At the end of the video I do not know if it is bad or good or both. I am not sure what would be best for Styxt male and Kambula, but if he is somehow able to stay with Ndhzenga male lions hopefully it is not when and where he may start hurting the cubs. Kambulas and Ndhzenga male lions were doing so good I do not know what it means or it would mean if Styxt male lions stays. Always they have been doing good the Kambula lions, but to have just the Styxt male lions come and hurt the young cubs it is not good. If Styxt could stay and not hurt cubs anymore it would be good.

Also if that was the older Kambula lioness wasn’t that the young lioness mother? Maybe that does not matter. I am thinking does it rule out the young lioness from hurting the cubs? The Kambula lioness may be her mother but she has cubs and does not and may not want her around her cubs. It has been seen with other lionesses once they have been separated some time with cubs they may not come back together.

Would not say it is strange behavior as male lions or female lions will kill another cub given the chance if it is not theirs or from another pride. For Styx Male behavior I would say it is not strange as he seems to be announcing that K12 is his for the taking, somewhat mating with K12 did definitely give a confidence boost to him.

If you mean in the latest part of the video where the cub is killed it seems like it is the Styx Male and K12, seems like she also did take part in the killing of the cub. As if it is a Kambula lioness she would have defended the cub and attacked the Styx Male but from seeing the video the Styx Male is quite relax to other lioness with him so I would conclude that it is K12 that is with him on the latter part of the video where the killed cub is shown.

What a silly boy, roaring after he'd just been chased by an Ndzenga male. Though it did seem that Amahle wasn't particularly keen on attacking him, just reminding him who's boss. I feel like an actual beating would have been better, considering he's possibly killed a Kambula cub, and severely injured another one. That footage near the end of him lying close to the body seems to indicate pretty strongly that he did. I imagine he came across some of the subs/subs on their own (looks like a younger one), as we've seen the Kambula lionesses have no problem driving him away. So his presence in Ndzenga territory is a real problem.

If that was the oldest Kambula lioness (K5), then that was indeed the breakaway lioness's mother. They said 'older', which could technically be any of the lionesses, but from the way she was running after K12 it did seem like an older lioness, rather than a still youthful 6 year old.

Anyway, let's hope the N'Waswitshakas can protect their remaining offspring.

Hi what I meant specifically of strange behavior is the Ndhzenga male lion. I wonder did he leave him alone, because he recognize him as his son? Or Ndhzenga male lion was not as aggressive, because of what you said; Styxt male lions interest is K12. In everything that is happening yes male lions and lionesses are around their cubs, and other male lions do not want other male lions around.

What I am talking about unpredictable in the video it was said that Ndhzenga male lion could have been more aggressive and hurt Styxt male when he tripped. I do believe he recognized him, but the worrying part if Ndhzenga male lions would not harm him and he stays around Kambula hopefully he does not hurt young Kambula cubs, but also Ndhzenga male lion may not had want to fight. I am not sure what would be best if Styxt can stay it would be good, but I always thought and saw the point is to help the young cubs.

Yes I was saying unpredictable for many reasons. Like in the end of the video it was said Styxt could stay, or leave. Syxt could join another young male lion closer to his age, but there is a chance he might stay with Ndhzenga male lions. I think it is very unpredictable what might happen next. Is unpredictable a lot of lions all are different, and can make their own choice different choices. Male lions before Ndhzenga male lions with Kambula lions; would chase two sons also had not seen them, and were chasing them, and it did not look like the NdZhenga male lion chasing Styxt they looked very serious. Styxt roaring was just calling K12 looked like to me. Yes K12 was Ndhzenga male lion and Styxt I wonder if she will have cubs. Styxt male did look calm I get the feeling there is a chance he may stay, and that is unpredictable if he stays or leave. Nervous part the Kambulas had been doing so good, and what Styxt male lion does may change.

K12 may have cubs and maybe may not join Kambulas. Hopefully Kambula cubs are ok. May Kambula cub rest.

Floppy Ear would likely be the son of Ubuso?  Was that the name of the one the Gijima's killed?  Or is Floppy from the time when the N'Was were all 4 in charge of the Styx pride?

This is truly bad news for all involved.  Floppy has gone warp speed to Male Lionhood.  It's fascinating to see the degrees of Lion maturation.

Floppy is like barely 4 and he's mating and chasing and trying to carve out territory all by himself, and then you have the Kambula's at like 6 still meandering around without a care in the world.

Yeah Floppy Ear was born when the 4 Ndzhengas were still around, and Uboso was the one who died from the Gijima fight injuries, he could very well be Uboso but man does he remind me of Gore with his blondish mane
Anyhow at 3/4 years old he is almost the same size as Ahmale wich is very cool to see, I doubt he will be much bigger than that but I tought he´d be smaller wich seems to not be the case
It´s amazing that K12 went from having 6/4 males without any confidence to an overconfident 4 year old lol
He´ll need to find a partner or have the luck of a lifetime to be dominant where he is  right now
That video migt be the best I´ve seen this year from lion dynamics in Kruger
At this video you can see:
Floppy Ear being chased and challange his fathers and killing one of his half brother ( we dont see the killing in itself but its pretty much what happend)
You got K12 being chased by her mother/aunt and being protected by the father of the male that she has been with, and also the one of the males that made her be in this situation in the first place
You got Ahmale think twice before fully launch himself into his son ( I dont know if he recognize him but its probably because he didnt saw the need to take such risk alone)
After he FE got away we saw him roaring facing the same males who ran him off, just for his other father come and chase him again
The most impressive thing in this video is really how Floppy Ear was able to outrun both Ndzhengas, I imagine that It cant be easy due to the sheer weight of his balls that he showed here
