3rd male was very skittish, there is 0 photos of him in Sabi Sands.

My opinion is that he got spooked by Ndhzengas, run away and never come back to search for his partners.

They might not be partners for long, so bond might not be there for 3rd to be attached to other 2.

I dont think he was killed by Ndhzengas.

Then I stand corrected, I thought he was the lone male standing with WN, contact calling for the other two.

I don't know if it was in the same post but what I saw about the 3rd male being with Kambulas came from Facebook where it states that Gijimas comes from the pretoriuskup pride. But so far no real proof of this has emerged.

I’ve read this narrative too and it’s made me a bit confused too.   Cause the sightings they share to back up the theory is not even conclusive.  No real way to  ID the lions in the pics they share.

Ok so I’ve got a question about bigger lion coalitions so doesn’t it stay the same when the biggest isn’t the leader or is the leader is the oldest male at the begging or loner always disappears or the smallest male is the most aggressive like I’m sure mr t, scrapper and Mohawk avoca where very aggressive males amongst their brothers just asking because it seems like a similar situation almost everytime

I don't think that's a given, DM Majingalane was probably the smallest but he was the clear leader and the most dominant, same goes for Nsuku of the Birminghams, or even the Mbiri males with Shaka the more dominant one. I think it's usually the male with the darkest mane who tends to be dominant, not necessarily the biggest, though usually the male with the darkest mane is also the biggest as they usually have better genetics among their coalition mates. The smaller males are usually more aggressive because they always get pushed around by others and some of them make up for the lack of size by being extra aggressive, not all of them though so even that changes from individual to individual.

Yesterday, the two Othowas were seen feasting on a giraffe kill and I figured they needed to eat as much as possible cause it would attract other predators.   Today, my hunch was confirmed.

The PCMs and Ximunghwe pride laid claim to the kill.   Hopefully both Othowas fled safely and full tummies

@sik94 Hipscar was the smallest.

There's a vid of him with GM in 2011 where GM looked much taller.

Rob also answers a guest asking him if DM was the biggest and he says "bigger than HS but not the biggest of the 4".

I think it goes SN > GM > DM > HS.

As for Shaka I'm not sure he is the most dominant, there're only 2 reports of them competing, in the first one Shaka was the most dominant, mating and fighting off ZZ. But there's also another report years later of Shaka fighting ZZ, losing and getting chased off. They might be equal with dominance switching depending on the day.

@Friarfan619 you mean Othawas?

This is their natal territory, the only place they know, the place where they are confident they can hunt, hide and find water, a huge part of their success surviving alone at such a young age is due to the fact they stayed in the territory they know instead of going nomadic.

As for "looking for new females", they are way too young to join adult lionesses, any males mating or controlling adult lionesses would kill them and it's not like they can magically find other sub females of their age who also happens to be orphans, but more importantly, as long as they have at least one sister ( each other ) they feel satisfied and not lonely, so they feel no need to make new friends.
