May report is out

https://malamala.com/game-reports

Random things of interest

"This month marks the first month we have recorded the (Kambula) sub-adult females mating with the dominant coalition, the Ndhzenga males. As the young females become comfortable in the presence of the Ndhzenga males, the sub-adult males are beginning to feel the pressure, as a result, sightings of the young males have become infrequent."

"One Kambula lioness appears to have given birth as she has been seen alone, flat bellied and with clear suckle marks. "

"• Two sub-adult males and three sub-adult females were seen on the 25th and 27th. Their ID is unconfirmed, but rangers suspect it to be members of the FOURWAYS PRIDE"

S1 males territorial roaring at Sabi Sabi :

And with Ndhzengas being seen roaring far north on N. Avocas border, looks like speculated big lion dynamic shift is happening rn.

So by the looks of it, 2 new males will become new dominant males in southwest area of Sabi Sands, what will that mean for Styx and SP prides is yet to be seen.

Its definitely not, we have enough evidence now in the past 2 months or so that this will happen.

You said exactly that ~1 month or so ago when i said that Ndhzengas will continue to vacant south, and yet, here we are now with S1 males territorial roaring in Sabi Sabi and Ndhzengas nowhere to be seen south, they are far north on N. Avocas border.

Also, find me last time when some of Ndhzenga males was seen with either Styx or Southern Prides, its prob around 2 months ago.

Since their expansion north, Ndhzengas are slowly vacanting south, which will eventually lead to completley abandoning their former territory and prides for Kambula pride and territory further north.

This is normal behavior, every big and successfull coalition do this, Majingilanes did territorial shift in 2014, Bboys in 2018 etc..

They were seen roaring once and now they're territorial ? If they're territorial why did they ran away when they picked up the scent of the n'was ? Whywas  the nwas's scent marks still there if they're planning to abandon that territory.
I don't care if it's normal move or if every big coalitions did that, it's nature and you can't predict nature.

I said they prob WILL be territorial, by the looks of it, not that they already are.

They picked their scent because Ndhzengas still mark around northern Sabi Sabi, Selati Camp, there they where last seen with Kambulas, around 2-3 weeks ago and thats still part of their territory which they visit.

Im not predicting future, im just saying what is going on and what this means based of past examples and behaviors.

But, whatever.

Tryna track extinct prides, any I've missed or got wrong? I know there were random small prides like the Skorros, 2+1 pride but can't find any decent information on them

Sparta/Eyrefield Pride -   Extinct 2021
Charleston Pride -  Extinct 2017
Hildas Rock/Skukuza Pride -  Extinct 2015
Ravenscourt Pride - Extinct 2014
Sandy Patch/Styx Breakaway Pride -  Extinct 2010
Old Sand River Pride - Extinct 2009
Emsagwen Pride - Extinct 2006
Skutane/Clarendon Pride - Extinct sometime between 2005 - 2006
River Rocks Pride - Extinct Sometime after 2000

Also there were two Marthly prides correct? The one that exists today and an older one in the same area that has gone extinct?

Hard to say, many possible scenarios.

But as for now, they didnt had any problems with new males, those males are still not territorial, so they had a window still, and if they hang around northern Sabi Sabi and Selati Camp,
they should be safe for now, this is still fairly close to Ndhzengas, who still visit and mark that area, which should be enough to keep 2 males away from that area for now, especially as they now know they are quite outnumbered and lost 1 brother to these males, they immiditately returned back south when they caught Ndhzengas scent in northern Sabi Sabi.

Ndhzengas will definitely still chase these males if they come too close to their borders or step into their territory again.

TORCHWOOD PRIDE MALE!

Close up with the impressive Torchwood pride male. This coalition was originally two members, but it seems one brother has likely died as he has not been seen in a long time and was dealing with a bad hip injury and tuberculosis. The two brothers dominated Torchwood and Fourways pride, they had 4 sub adult males with the Fourways pride that have not been seen in a while.

The remaining brother still controls Torchwood pride which consists of 14 lioness, 7 subs and several cubs. Lately the Torchwood pride male also has his eyes set on the vacant Imbali pride, which both him and the Skybeds are vying for.
