Agree with tr1x24, which solo male lion doesn't want a buddy, especially when surrounded by other coalitions

There is no point in joining forces with a much stronger lion as it means from that point on, it would just be that lion chasing you away from food or mates. While a weak coalition parker would be of little use for the stronger male. And just consume meat that he could have had himself.

The chances of forming an coalition are therefor much higher when both are roughly equal. Unless there is an prexisting bond.

Nym has been in the same spot for roughly a year now. So clearly he is feeling confident in calling it home. Which wouldnt be the case if he was constantly seriously attacked.

You said that it is unlikely that two males partner up unless they are roughly equal, unless there is an prexisting bond. Well Nkuhuma male is the son of Birmingham boys and They still seem remember each other.

If NK calls Singita "home", then he wont accept any other male lion in his territory, and thus he wont accept Nhena. This means the NK male still considers himself as a nomad looking for territory. And he thinks that his father/uncle would be a good coalition partner for him since he has experience on his side. This is looking more and more likely that a father/son coalition is forming.

I was more thinking something even closer, like littermates.

Just one chance meeting that didn't end in a fight does not mean they are going to join up.
Nym also shared a meal with Hairy belly without joining up. As have the Othawa subs with the Nwas or the Ximhungwe subs with Hipscar etc.

People always tend to put way to much value in these sorts of encounters. If its not the start of a violent takeover, its the birth of a new supercoalition. 9 out of 10 times nothing comes from it.
So we really should wait and see for more clearer signs that something is going to happen.

Kambula, the styx females all have cubs, they won't be mating for another two years (unless the cubs die)

Four girls with an Ndzhenga male.

Anybody know the current status of the Kambula cubs?

No sightings of them but Lion Safaris mentioned they had seen them about a week ago but couldn’t film in the thickets

These are K1, K4, K5 and K6.   Only the two mothers (K2 and K3) remain away from N’Waswishaka ATM

Seeing him push north to mate with Kambulas is good news, since he likes hanging out with Styx pride, he finally gets to explore the northern parts of the newly acquired territory. Also as I said with Limper Tumbela, I suspect Gore contributes more to the coalition then we think

Yeah, he's been holding down the fort in southern Sabi Sands all this time while his brothers have been expanding their territory. Gore deserves some action, he's more than earned it lol.
