The Nkuhuma Pride is on Djuma again. The cubs are both cute and feisty! Both Avocas, Blondie and Mohawk are with the group. They brought down a Giraffe. Great to see some small cubs on Djuma again.

Styx pride is on a good track of rebuilding the pride, with atleast 9 cubs and under protection of their mighty fathers, as long as they dont abandon them anytime soon, majority of these cubs should reach age of independence, althrough you never know in the wild.

Apparently there are three cubs who belongs to the 2nd oldest Styx lioness sired by the Majingilane males.

Update: There are 4 new cubs born to Majingilane's daughter. If you take a closer look you can count 11 cubs.
Great news for the now (after the demise of the Sparta pride), oldest pride in Sabi Sands!

Sisterly Love!
The youngsters of the Mhangeni Pride are in great condition and the pride has been seen today having finished their buffalo kill.

Even better!

This year is really "baby boom" in Sabi Sands, new cubs in Othawa, Styx, Kambula, Nkuhuma, Torchwood and Mhangeni prides (althrough only 1 is still alive from youngest litter)..

I really hope that these cubs make it to adulthood. Othawas and Styx have best chances, since Tumbelas&Nwas are entering their prime. But all it takes to decimate all the cubs is a big coalition that will takeover much of the reserve, but that scenario is highly unlikely.

I recall on 20 August the whole subadult group had been seen in Chitwa Chitwa. Today they have been seen in Little Gowrie and Djuma, not far from the other group, including Mohawk and Blondie.

Dont think Othawas have "best chances", 2 out of 3 females are quite old and could potentially pass away any time..Also, Tumbelas are 3,but lets be real here, Scar wont last much longer, and its uncertain what will happen with Limper, so basically they are on 1 healthy and strong male..

Styx's have definitely the best chances if Nwaswitshaka dont completely abandon them, theres no coalition around who can beat 4 prime males atm..

Looks like young subadult males are with them, if i counted correctly, 5 subadult males, which would be correct right (there where 6, and 1 died, 4 older and 1 is the youngest one), not sure about the 3 subadult females:

There are still three males roaring for them so that's still a huge plus in the deterrence factor.
And they have the geography working towards them. They are boxed in from the south, north and west. With on the east they have the Mhangeni, Ximhungwe and Tsalala pride absorbing any blow.
The other coalitions seem to be constantly dragged in the Avoca Birmingham Boys conflict, leaving only the occasional stray single male.

Outside of a case of bad luck. They may have enough time for the two Tumbellas to beef up before there will be a serious challenge. If we allow ourselves to be spoiled, gingerella may also return to the pride in that time. Its not for nothing that the pride has the reputation of being Sabi Sands retirement castle.
