Well cant remember, but very strange situation indeed, althrough we need to wait and see if that "partnership" will last.

Marvin the Monwana male made coalition with BD and Timbavati male when they all were dominant. Mapoza male made coalition with Xikukutsu when he was dominant over Avoca pride.
Btw it is very nice that gap left by Talamati pride in southern Manyeleti is getting filled up.

Solo was accepted this way by a male he even fought before. Was it Sparta pride? I think so. Junior partner is actually a good option for a lone aging male, gives him longevity and continuation for his ofspring to make it and there is even a posibility his sons might end up making a coalition with his junior partner, typically if the junior partner gets overthrown once alone.

Solo wasn't coalition partner of Rolercoaster male. He was just a youngester who joined Sparta pride and was tolerated and accepted by the females and dominant male. He wasn't dominant male himself tho.

Yes he formed a coalition with Freddy (Kruger male) and it was the Southern/Selati pride, not the Sparta pride.
Some guides are just desperate for DM to loose his pride huh? Despite them doing everything right as a pride it’s always “limp”, DM is alone… not to mention constant rumors and misinformation. I miss the days Niel was a guide here and you could just enjoy a nice lion sighting.

Probably he just meant the being on his own it would be very hard for DM to defend his pride which is reasonable. Being lone dominant male can be very rough.

He is 8. Northern Avocas are from mid 2013.

Seems consistent with the movement of Talamatis Tristan showed on map during that sunset drive, when he was waiting for sleeping Talamatis to wake up and get active (resulting only in allogrooming session after dark) - as this is Pungwe area, so it is likely they just made a short loop in from Buffelshoek, got filmed and this video is just published with few days delay unlike WE which streams live.
The Orpen legacy still alive and well within the Mbiri Pride who are protected by the Tintswalo males. These cubs are doing well. Photo taken on 11 July 2021

Hey, quick background on the S8 male
Took over the imbali pride in june 2019? With a coalition partner who has since died?
If so when did his partner die?
any guesses on his age? 7-8ish?
Who did he take the imbali pride from?
When was he first sighted?

I think he was alone when he come to Imbali pride.
Imbali pride was abandoned by 2 Mulwati males as far as I know, him and Hamiltons male filled the void in Mulwati Concession in mid 2019, later in 2020, 2 S125 males came in, camps in Mulwati Concession still think they are former dominant males Madala and Blondie, but they are not.
I dont know nothing of S8 male before that..
He is prob around the age of N. Avocas, maybe slightly younger.

If you go through Imabali blogs (https://imbali.com/ranger-blog/) you should find answers to those questions hopefully.
April 2019
we also had one sighting of the Imbali pride whom we have not seen for a while moving east from Hoyo-Hoyo when out of nowhere a large black mane Lion appeared and started to follow them but the Lionesses did not like his advances and the pride ran off at speed.
May 2019
It was a mixture of Lions this month as we had various different sightings of some prides from our neighbouring reserves as well as a large male we have seen once before mating with a Lioness we think is from the Imbali pride, so if they are successful we might see some new cubs around in about three months’ time.
June 2019
The Imbali pride or part thereof was seen a couple of times, the young males in the pride are at the age where they are being forced out on their own. All the guides have a soft spot for this pride, we have watched them from tiny cubs growing up. Every time we see them it is interesting to see how they are developing and growing up, we hope they will one day form a formidable coalition. We also had a very large unknown male moving all over the concession roaring constantly for all to hear, possibly looking for a female or to chase the young males off the concession and take the Lionesses for himself so we wait to see how the dynamics will work out.
December 2019
Some breath-taking sightings of lions all over the concession throughout the month, Imbali pride now consists of 4 females and 1 male lion. The females have been hanging around Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge it is presumed that they have cubs in the area….. using the drainage line to the north of Hoyo Hoyo Open Plains.
Reading through all these reports, this part of kruger seems like some sort of corridor for nomadic males. Pretty interesting
