There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Credits to Hyena Project - Ngorongoro.

In contrast to popular believe, spotted hyenas rarely take over kills from lions. In fact, the opposite is more frequent and hyenas regularly lose their food to lions, particularly when they compete with an adult male lion. On this video, it is quite impressive to see how a group of twenty-five hyenas abandon the kill without any hesitation when they see the lion approaching.

ONE male lion sends 20-25 hyenas running for the hills. Awesome and amazing.

In the video of the hyenas scattering, the jackals didn't seem nearly as scared.

@Siegfried:

About #593: Jackals are not perceived as being a threat by the male lions. And they known it.

Love this shot, unusual angle but very affective. The photographer, Rhino Post Safari Lodge, said this about the photo:

I like the look of strength and vulnerability. Saw him early morning this week sleeping on the road between Satara and Orpen. He had a younger, greyer brother nearby.
