There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Against the grain.

Here's another very high ISO (and therefor grainy) photo from our safari on the Maasai Mara last summer. This shot didn't really work in color, but I think it's allright in black and white. With all that noise it feels a bit like it was shot on film.

If I'm not mistaken (which I am every now and then) this is a lion they call Notch 2.

This is Notch ll...son of the most famous of male lions in Maasai Mara. Notch raised his five sons to become a forceful army. Their penchant for killing hippos became well known such was their strength and might.
Today, only two of his sons are alive; Notch ll and Caesar. Seeing these big cats on a game drive is a special sighting.
Some of my guests have been lucky enough in the past to see four of them together in the same place. One group even witnessing one of their such hippo kills.
Their many prodigy are now spread around Mara for generations hopefully. Long may they prosper.

How old are the notches? The last two remaining males must be atleast 10 year olds. How did this coalition whittle down to just two? They seems to be on the same trajectory as the mapogos where they kept losing members as soon they hit around three years of being dominant males. The majinglanes only lost 1 member, and after that they did not lose another member for 6 and a half years, and even HipScar died from old age or there about.

I think they are around 12 year old.
Ceaser is the younger one
