From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, 22 May '17:
"We had numerous sightings of White Dam’s male cub who surprised us one evening as Sheldon and Doc were busy setting up for their evening sundowner when Doc spotted the cub up a tree in the distance. In another sighting, he narrowly missed a hunting attempt on a Scrub Hare."

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, 24 May '17:
"There’s been a lot of male leopard activity in the area as we have been seeing Xovonekela pushing far north into Maxabeni’s territory and Mahlathini was also spotted moving around the eastern side. Maxabeni was seen finishing off the remains of a Scrub Hare he killed and proceeding to quench his thirst as he made his way through his territory."

DESPERATELY WANTING
This was a special sighting, not only was there a leopard in a tree, there were two leopards in a tree with a Grey Duiker kill! The kill was made by the dominant male, Maxabeni and this picture is of his offspring, the young White Dam male, who was watching his father feeding. I called this picture “Desperately Wanting” as this young leopard could not look more attentive to the kill if he tried!

I had never seen these two leopards in the same sighting together and it was interesting to see the interaction between these males. At the age of two and a half years and living within his father’s territory, the sub adult White Dam should have been pushed out by now. I loved the look on this leopard’s face as his father casually fed on the Duiker kill and showed no attention to the scrapping clan of Hyenas below the tree.

The key to this photograph and the reason why little processing, was the utilisation of two spotlights in the sighting. I captured a similar picture with back lighting where just the halo of the leopard was visible. I decided to use this picture as I needed to have a front lit spotlight to illustrate the expression on the face of the young predator. This knowledge by the Rangers and Trackers of Sabi Sabi allows for great photographic opportunities in usually difficult lighting conditions.

"The Kashane male leopard was making his way through the Western section of Maxabeni's territory, close to Little Bush Camp. As dusk set upon the reserve, we witnessed Kashane become active as he made his way to a small pan to drink water and begin and evening of attempted hunts, however he was unsuccessful."

"This morning we followed up on some Francolin’s alarm calling and found the White Dam male moving on top of some rocks where he was watching a herd of impalas which he began to hunt."

"This morning White Dam female and her sub-adult male cub where found on a kill which was quickly stolen by hyenas. They didn't stick around long and moved out of the area of where the hyenas where feeding on the fresh kill."

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, 06 June '17:
"Hlarulini was seen slowly moving close to the Southern boundary of our Northern property, a face we haven't seen in a while.
This morning Little Bush's cub was sunning herself on a small termite mound, not too far away from where White Dam's cub was seen moving along the Msuthlu River close to Selati Camp.
Xovonekela was found exiting the Southern property of Lisbon back into his own territory."
