Really hate on how people somehow will think that this is the end for the Kambulas and concluding this and that when they have just started entering 6 years old is just absurd it's like you know what will happen in the future and in that future of yours they will fail and just saying that put that negativity just inside your head.

Yes it's very possible that they could still end up being successful and territorial. But as many people have said, something about their behaviour needs to change. And the longer they go on more or less behaving in the same way, the more difficult it becomes to maintain optimism that they will. For a while people expected that they would end up as territorial males, just because they were a coalition of 4, but I think people are starting to realise that this doesn't guarantee that they will succeed.

Obviously, for example, 6, now 5 Birmingham Breakaways are still not fully territorial, having 3 males older than Kambulas for atleast half a year, and 2 males around their age.

They had more numbers and are older, they kinda become semi territorial (with Mayambulas) like Kambulas, and got expelled by Vuyelas, while having number advantage.

Now they are for ~ half a year back around their natal territory, behaving semi-territorial.

So Kambulas are definetly not some kinda of "1 in 100" coalition who are kinda late to act/become territorial, theres even larger and older coalition just ~ 20km away at the same time.

Remember, these animals are under no obligation to be conquers or claim territories. If they just want to chill, they will chill.
And if they grow old chilling, they obviously have been successfull.

Bbreakways didn't had numbers on the Vuyelas, still they look indeed very similar to the Kambulas.

Anyway if BDM really beat up K4 the first time ( quite possible, he was close by ), it's unfortunately for Kambulas that again their lack of aggressive action backfired on them.

They had a million chances to put the S.BDM down or at least chase him off the territory for good, they had him at their mercy countless times, even 4v1 against weakened/skinny BDM, but didn't do anything, now it's not impossible for the BDM to help finishing K4 off, especially when his brothers, again instead of dealing with him, just tolerates him at the buffalo carcass and feed together... After chasing the NK sub male.

Shishangaan Males (Casper and bros) didn’t become territorial until 6/7 years of age and they didn’t receive half as much hate and criticism (from certain individuals) as the Kambulas even though they were also a four strong coalition with the numbers advantage over other males. In fact most people simply accepted they were just later than average to develop and were pleased when they finally managed to take hold of a pride and territory.

I don’t disagree Kambulas have failed to achieve their potential so far and have displayed some strange behaviour but it’s not as if we are all witnessing something we’ve not seen before. Just hope K4 recovers from this as it would be a real shame to lose their most impressive member at such a critical moment for them.

I want to be clear.  I am not in hate of the Kambula males.  I've always and will always have a soft spot for them, but this situation with K4 throws a giant cloud over their future.  If they move on through life never being territorial?  So be it.  I think for me the greatest problem here with a LOT of the males in Sabi (and there are a LOT of males in Sabi right now), is that they all really suck for the prides that were left alone when The Northern Avocas and S8 were ousted/passed.  The Kambula's were seen as the hope and savior for that region, and as we now see, probably not.  So... off to Kruger with you and next up!

Perhaps we are at fault more for putting that pressure on them, I know I am, but hate?  I do not hate them.  I do not criticize them.  I am a lazy human with nowhere near the ambition of even my peers.  I've done just fine for myself in life and that's enough for me, while many of my closest friends have incredible careers and families and whatnot.  So I get the concept of wanting to just exist and be free.  Maybe they'll get there in a couple of years, but my point is more that in 2 years, it might just be too late.  If K4 does succumb to these injuries which is highly probably, I can see the remaining 3 being picked off one by one over that time.  Or... who knows.  They take SBDM into the fold and he leads them to glory.

For me the interesting thing is that they have 8 or 9 younger brothers coming up the line that show some promise.  I guess time will tell.

Would really doubt this happened as there are many conflicting information about this but if this really happened why would SBDM abandon the giraffe carcass then have a sighting on a different carcass (buffalo) and not on the giraffe that he chased K4 away. Also the guide in the latest update that I posted said that K4 is eating on the giraffe carcass and not have said a thing about SBDM chasing K4 off the giraffe.

I believe that the conflict is in the days that this occurred, it doesn't make sense that it happened yesterday but rather the first time that K4 found the carcass. In any case, the important thing at the moment is that K4 has managed to feed, I don't think that SBDM is a threat to the point of putting an end to K4 and as for his brothers, this is not the first time that they have shared a meal with other males , that doesn't change much.

Kambula Update: The Matty (do not really know if he is a guide or photographer for the lodge) have said that the SBDM is not feeding on the carcass, seems like the Kambulas is not letting him eat. He is also not sure about the lion ID here as you know the North right now have so many males that is trying to claim it.

To them young male (who will be 4 soon, he is hardly a sub anymore) might be more threat than submissive SBDM, with who they already shared kills numerous time and at this point they know he is no threat.

Also, I dont see any NKs or BDM on that carcass, and theres like 90% of carcass left, so idk how long that sharing lasted, not long looks like it.

K6's mane getting quite dark and almost full.

I thought back in the day that he might always be a mohawk male but it seems he'll get a full dark mane at some point, he's not even 6 after all.

Anyway maybe the Kambulas were chased by Mantimahle recently and/or knows K4's injured, leaving them less confident than even the usual, chasing the sub but not BDM.

Last time BDM realizes K4 and K6 meant business and ran with Kruger male.

Now he shares food with 3 Kambulas.

Lions can probably tell the mood/level of territorial behavior of one another at any given time.
