There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

That is so cool, man.

I find it impressive that the jag keeps it's grip and composure with all the thrashing and submerging and resurfacing.

Jaguars are large predators that evolved in a continent full of giants. But now, the giants had dissapear and the largest prey available for this great cats are the tapir (the largest terretrial mammal from Mexico to Argentina) and it lives at very low densities. It is interesting that in the areas where jaguars prey on feral cattle they develp the largest sizes (Pantanal of Brazil and Los Llanos in Venezuela). Jaguars will predate on any large animal, and it seems that reptiles are a good source of food, they are relatively large and it seems that jaguar are very succesfull in hunting them. As far I know, there is still no study about the success and relative predation of jaguar in reptiles, but it seems that caimans, turtles and anacondas are a good part of the menu.

The next document pretend to show the relative preferences of prey of the jaguars in the continent, check it and I think that it will be usefull to conversate and debate.

Holy shit! Saw this Jaguar (Panthera onca) hunting this White Lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari). Normally peccaries are in big groups of at least 50 but this one was on its own and this female Jaguar named Sirí by @oncafari took advantage of it being alone. @peccary_queixada_project #jaguar#onçapintada #caça #bigcats #cat#peccary #pantanal
