LEOPARD - HEAD ON

This is one of the memorable sighting of a Leopard in the recent times, its all about patience and perseverance when wildlife is involved. Behavioral knowledge will be an added advantage. Majority of us get really exhilarated when cats are sighted and forget the significance of value as ones finger will just be rattling all over the camera buttons. That is when the photographers get busiest of all times. If one is looking for just a picture of the cat, you will get it anyways. But if you are pursuing the best picture of all, then you will need to wait, sacrifice some pics, time and space. 

This is the best one i can relate it to, we found him walking ahead in the same direction, we know cats look best when head on. when i try to get closer he would just disappear into the bushes. I sacrificed some really good pictures while he was sitting right next to me at a very close distance just for getting this picture. I had to drive by without stopping for him to feel comfortable and make him come to me rather than me going to him. And after i drove he never came out, but i did not quit there, i had to wait almost an hour for him to come to us. 

Once he felt it was safe and sound, he came to the same distance what i missed but this time it was head on. I had all the time in the world to set the settings right and place the focusing points in the right place. At no point the cat was disturbed, and at no point I were disappointed.

I couldn't tell if it was some sort of filter or actual color of the leopard.
It is indeed a very unique color if its been unfiltered, he's a beautiful boy though. Reply

I increased the colour temperature for some warmer colours and increased the vibrancy to bring out more colour. You can still see his coat is pale compared to the dry grass in the foreground. So it has nothing to do with image processing. he is just pale.

Phantom of the forest...Black panther
Kabini, India.

I started this journey from the US with a wild dream. The morning of my travel date I was in the ER with terrible pain from a kidney stone. When I was told that the stones were small I was determined to fly. Suffered a lot of pain during my travel but did reach my destination Kabini, India. Witnessed a great natural history moment of a spotted Leopard and the most elusive Black panther fighting for their territory. This was a look he gave us after he emerged from his fight. Thank you mom for your prayers...

Leopard With Gaur Calf Kill, Bandipur

I had heard about this leopard with a gaur calf kill 3 days prior to making this image. The leopard was unable to carry the kill atop the tree because of its size. The kill lay vertically beneath the tree but no one saw it till the leopard got down from the tree and dragged the kill to other side of the game track. Inspite of multiple days of feeding the kill was still massive in size relative to the leopard. It was an amazing natural history sight!
