I think I uploaded it to the "B2 and other Tiger Images" thread as well. Check it out, he is very tall. Very big cat if you watch the Gaur kill vid. He is thick in the hind quarters as well, his smaller head and muscular body I think gives the impression of a regular sized tiger. But I haven't heard any eye witness remarks about him.

Another tiger that I heard was massive but looks short to me, is shivaji. Same kind of body as Raja, smaller neck/head area but extremely muscular.

Okey I will go and seartch for that picture, yeah sometimes big induviduvals are beeing overshadowed by animals who looks big on pictures.

I love the arms of Raja, it just can't be anymore impressive. Raja kills the Gaur like the leopard who kills two wildebeest's at one time, almost the same technique!

I love that video, I watched it soo much when it first released. Couldn't imagine being lucky enough to see that in person.
Raja clamped on like a pit bull. I couldn't believe how quickly he crushed its windpipe to silence it then held on with a vice like bite.

He will gain mass with age, I doubt a lion of that age is growing much taller. Everything I see in big cats points to sub adults just being not quite as robust but usually pretty close in frame size, wether lion or tiger.

Actually, I am wrong. I just read your South african lion table, and it looks as though the largest shoulder heights where on the oldest males. Seems to be about 1cm a year up until age 8

Here is the video of the lion taking down the large cow buffalo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8DeJGfZnRk

And here is rajas video with the cow gaur, I wonder if she just gave birth? She seemed rather thin for a gaur, but then again cats seek out the weak. Notice how both lion and tiger once they grabbed the throat, the buffalos didn't put up much of a fight after that, the lion tossed the buffalo to the ground while raja held on till the cow become to weak a couple minutes later and fell to the ground.

They say "tossed" in the doc, the cow went down once oxygen got too low, thats why her limbs are completely erect. She is going unconscious.
The thing that stands out most to me is that the buffalo cow was able to pull the lion in the begining, we also don't know how it started compared to Raja that once he bit down, he wasn't budged.
The cape buffalo may be more robust, the gaur while a thin one, would definitely be quite a bit taller and a naturally larger animal, so they could possibly be relatively close in size.

I do think the buffalo was bigger, the Gaur in that video is not the most impressive female Gaur I have seen! And the Cow in the clipp is described as beeing a Large buffalo cow!
But again tigers and lions are Capable to kill even bigger animals!

They sure can, its always impressive to watch them do what they do best. The way they have tactics for different animals, there are specialists, and they way they can determine any little crack in the chain.

Have you ever seen any predation?

Yeah I agree, did you see the male lion pictures and videos of them killing bulls, that i posted on lion predation??

I love to see animals at action, everything from stoats to lions and tigers!

I sadly never got to see a kill... But I did see a pride of lions eating a bull buffalo! And to see male lions dominate the kill was very cool! An experience i will never forget!

I did, but they were multiple males, correct?
But I'm sure a big male could probably do it if the circumstances are right. I wonder between the 3 Rhino, Elephant or Hippo, which one is preyed upon the least by lions.

I'm sure something very primal to watch a big male and pride at a kill. Would be very cool to see.

I had one clip of a male lion, killing a massive prime bull, but it took him 22hr.. So killing a bull takes some effort to make such a kill! And that makes you admire what a lion and a tiger is Capable of!

Yeah to watch a big cats where they belong is something special! Where they have to fight to survive!

Here is the clip of the male against the buffalo

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UPOCZ4dAr8k

Also rhino is the least preyed species for lions! I'm 100% sure, hippos are common for large prides with big male coalition, and they are easy to kill at night because even tho they are fast they are not agile, and espessinally at day when they dry up aswell. Elephats in Botswana and Zimbabwe is common prey for lions in the dry season, and those lions have spesialiced on killing elephants. No place where lions do kill rhinos regualary! Rhinos are agile, fast and have the thickest skinn.
