There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Lucky Rani

12.09.2018
Being opportunistic hunters, cheetahs use every chance to catch prey. Tall grass can help a cheetah to approach an antelope at a distance sufficient for a productive attack and can prove a good cover for the opened kill. In such cases, cheetah can stay at a kill for over 6 hours, feeding from the same carcass from time to time. Today, Rani spent several hours feeding on Thompson gazelle in the morning and later, in the evening. When she left with a full belly, vultures appeared on the stage, which patiently waited for their turn. In a minute their feast was interrupted by a hyena, and Rani could watch the action from a safe distance.

Rani. Updates

06/20/2019
When the catch is small, cheetah mother provides most of it to her cubs, taking a few bites. A hungry state stimulates the female to hunt again, and if succeeded, she eats to satiety. Yesterday Rani successfully hunted twice and both times on the young Thomson’s gazelles. Rani’s cub was still eating the first meal when the mother prepared for the next hunt. They ate the first prey in an open field, and the second one Rani took it to a bush. By the end of the day both were full and settled down for the night.

RANI and HER OFFSPRING

06/11/2020
Not all cheetah females are equally successful, initially they learn from their mothers, and the more experienced the female mother, the more successful her offspring will be. Rani, born at the end of 2008 from the famous female Shakira, in 12 years of her life raised only one litter – in 2015: one male and two females – Nashipai and Neema. Usually female mothers leave their young adolescents around the age of 16 months. The Rani’s family was an exception – the cubs themselves left the mother at the age of 18 months. Young males move far from the mother’s home range, while females establish the territory within the maternal area with significant overlap of their territories. Rani’s son disappeared quite quickly – it is more difficult for singletons to survive in the presence of male coalitions, and they become nomadic. Young females founded their territories away from each other: we often meet Nashipai in the reserve, where she is sometimes located a kilometer from her mother Rani. At the same time, her sister Neema is firmly settled in the northern part of the Mara, in more than 36 kilometers from her sister. To date, none of the 5-year-old females raised a single cub, although each was repeatedly pregnant. Rani raised her first and so far, the only litter at the age of 7 years, perhaps her daughters will repeat her path.

Name: Nashula
Gender:Female
Location: Masai Mara, previously Serengeti
Subspecies: Acinonyx Jubatus Jubatus

The absence of physical boundaries between Masai Mara and Serengeti allows cheetahs to travel between Tanzania and Kenya. Nashula left for Masai Mara in Mid February 2021 and in early March was familiar with the Siana Conservancy in the Mara. She gave birth to 3 cubs in around October 2020. She travelled and explored the Mara with her cubs. Her name means "mix" in Maa a reference to her spending time in both Tanzania and Kenya.
