Last week we went to Victoria, BC to attend meetings to further Nature Labs. It was winter. We had to try 3 times before being able to drive over, and wildlife was scarce. A week later, we return to full on spring. Ospreys returned, snow melted and bears out. It's not even May and we've already seen 3 grizzlies and 8 black bears, including three cubs of the year. Bears are out. Bears are everywhere. They are where you least expect them. If you are remotely near bear country, do yourself a favour - carry bear spray. It doesn't matter how old a son is. Even big and strong he is always a small boy for his mother. Grizzly Sow 815 and her 2+ years old male cub grazing along Obsidian Creek today. It was a nice warm sunny day which made it hard to get good photos but we had a nice time watching this pair hunting for grubs in the downed timber. 815 is a special bear to me, she was the first bear I saw with cubs the year I moved to Yellowstone, and I have often seen her and her various sets of cubs for the last 8+ years. She has had many names: Mini Mom (due to her small size), Obsidian Sow (because she is seen first every Spring along Obsidian Creek, and lately she has be known simply by her bear number, 815.  *This image is copyright of its original author

People in the world are probably known that animal channel for Everland story, tiger name Final 16 beating up all of male lions in Everland. I think that bear-lioness-dog story has a more than that. Because I remember when lioness was the number 1 before. Anyway, they got along each other in last decade. I am not sure if bear has a short memory to not remembering her in 2014. Maybe he was stressed. Or he didn't cared.
I think emotion in animals is not that strong(compared to human), the basic instinct wins.. In worst cases mother lioness drop their weakest cub, or sometime they eat the dead cub.. unlike human they are not driven by emotions at that extent.
So bear driven by basic instinct (aggressive nature) does not care his relationship with Lioness in past, no emotion..

Sometimes even after a long winters nap, you still gotta take time to rest. Actually this guy had walked several miles and swam the river twice, not to mention posing for many photographers and visitors along the way. Yesterday I went out on my own to the Hayden Valley that just opened. I found three grizzly bears, including this one that walked right by my car. I barely had to time get a few shots and only could because I always have my camera in the seat next to me! The scars are likely from fighting with another bear. Here are a couple more photos from yesterday of the grizzly bear. This is obviously when he decided to swim the river. He swam the first half and then right in the middle he stopped dunked his head and then came out and shook all over. It was an incredible sight to see.
