Ranthambhore National ParkYesterday at 2:55am ·"What a joke? I guess the writer (who definitely does not have much of a clue) was briefed by someone who is either trying to play dirty local politics or does not have a clue himself.
The articles mentions - "The five tigers missing for the past six months — whose whereabouts are not known to the forest authorities —included four males and two females. The male tigers are five-year old T-47 (popularly known as Mohan); and T- 55, T-64 and T-65 —all about three year old; besides the female tiger T48, which is about five year old."
We saw T 64 nd T 65 in end March and beginning April. T 47 was mating in Darra area of the park the day before yesterday. T 48 is a female that was known as Female XX (or T XX) as she was never really trapped in the camera traps. except once in 2007, when she was full grown and she now should be at least 13 or 14 years old.
If so many tigers are missing then how come Ranthambhore National Park right now has more tigers than it ever had before, in fact 30-40% more than the park ever had before. Typical tabloid sensational bull shit. Grow up Daily Mail."

Here is the article they are speaking about

Here is more detail news by renowned wildlife photographer Aditya Singh, A must read story

According to him

Yesterday (8th May 2015) a dominant male tiger, called Ustaad or T 24, who is at the end of his prime attacked and killed a Forest Guard called Rampal Saini in the evening. There are lots of versions going around and few, if any of them, are close to the truth. I reached there 20 minutes after the incident happened and this is what I saw:

"I was on a safari in Ranthambhore national park with my friend Dharmendra Khandal of Tiger Watch. At around 1805 hours we were parked near a lake when we heard a wireless message in a Forest Department jeep that was parked next to us, about a tiger attacking a forest guard near the “barrier” (very close to the main gate of the park). We rushed towards the location and by the time we reached we were told that Forest Guard Rampal Saini was attacked and killed by a tiger. His was taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Everyone present there was talking about how a young tiger called “Sultan” (or T 72) had attacked the guard. However none of the people present there had seen this happen. In fact no one present there had even seen a tiger.
At that time we were not sure if it was a leopard or a tiger, let alone which tiger. A few minutes after we reached there Dharmendra spoke to the DFO Mr. Sudarshan Sharma, who was on his way back from Jaipur after attending a meeting of the state Wild Board. He told us to wait there for ACF Daulat Singh to reach and we did not have to wait long. Dharmendra, a few forest guards and I jumped into the ACF’s jeep and we went out to search for the tiger to identify the individual. In the meantime the ACF, who has a near lifetime of experience in handling man animal conflict, had evacuated the area and asked a few other Forest Department vehicle to park strategically to search for the tiger. While we ere looking around for the tiger, we got a message from one of the Forest vehicles that the tiger had just been seen where the guard was killed. We rushed back and found T 24 or Ustaad standing over the same spot where the guard was killed. We found him sniffing the entire area and then looking for the body. The tiger was in an aggressive mood and charged at the one of the Forest Department vehicles. After searching for the body for some time the tiger gave up and slowly started walking towards the Singhdwar gate, all the while marking his territory.
We followed in the ACF’s jeep and just as we crossed the Misradhara gate, Dharmendra fell down from the jeep as the driver braked hard to stop going over a big rock. The tiger instantly turned around and started coming towards our vehicle in a manner that could be only be explained as stalking. Dharmendra jumped back in the jeep just before the driver reversed back and the tiger sniffed the area where Dharmendra had fallen down. Around 1920 the tiger disappeared in the woods heading towards the Sultanpur area."

Horrible News but Ustaad (T24) has been transferred to a Zoo.
Human beings continue to put their "rules" to the animal kingdom and its absolutely wrong IMO. Shariq KhanMay 12 at 11:39am · Edited · Double Standards Again. First people are going into their habitat, constantly disturbing their Routine and Hunting and when they treat human as their prey as a last option to survive that too when they are not able to hunt their usual prey. They are termed as Man Eater.

Now T24 is imprisoned much like this cub and look what he turned into to...
Some Years back Our Tigers were going to "China" and now they are going to Zoo. I don't know which situation was/is worst ?
Whatever happened recently with so called "Man-eater" of RTR is not new. Some years ago Two sub-adult cubs (B1 and B2) of Bandhavgarh Tigress(Mirchani) were declared Maneaters, then captured and kept at Van Vihar of Bhopal. Last year one of them was transferred to Indore Zoo. This one Cub B2(now already turned into a fully grown one) always looks tense in his enclosure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v-ppZCQcGQ

Mihir Gandhi , yes you are correct that they are Mirchani's Cubs. Here they are known as B1 and B2 .

The worst part is now T24's two cubs are in danger and his female is as well, if she isn't receptive to breeding or tries to protect her cubs she can loose her life as well.
Very sad overall

It seems like Ustaad like any person, can be in a bad mood. The stress of constant harassment probably boils over in him and he lashes out or blows a gasket if you will. The difference between a wild animal blowing a gasket and a human being is usually significant but we can't blame him. He doesn't live by our laws, there is no court in the wild, no guilty or innocent, no judge or jury, only life and death. It's a shame that humans feel the need to rule all beings the same since all beings live very differently from us. I think our laws should only apply to us, nothing else.
It's a shame that his feet will never touch the wild terrain again and he will be forced to live what little life he has left in a captivity. Like that video of B2 going crazy in captivity, wild animals don't belong there, they haven't had 100s of years to adapt to captivity, they are not mentally prepared for such imprisonment.
Very sad days in Ranth..

Very interesting read though @sanjay

Sarosh LodhiTHE REAL STORY:There was a forest guard working in a tiger reserve for last 15years or so. His wife used to go and collect wood , illegally, from forest each day from last so many years.
On one evening, as the guard’s wife entered to collect wood, she saw a tiger sitting a little far, which growled to warn the lady. The lady got scared and came rushing to her husband, who was manning the check-post. When his wife narrated the story, he asked her not to worry and that he will shoo away the tiger so that she can go again to collect wood from the forest.
He called his close friend Skr, who drives around tourists inside the park and works with a resort name AEK, so that he can bring his guests nearby to get sighting of this lovely male and earn a fat tip.
The other guards manning the post asked him not to do so as it will be stupidity and it could be the prominent male tiger, which doesn’t budge so easily, what happened after that is known to all.
A resort owner, one guy from an NGO and someone from the department got hand in glove to oust poor tiger from the park. Points Ignored:
• Proof of zeroing in on the right tiger
• Eyewitnesses had seen a different tiger
• Tiger had made three human kills, last being in 2012, all within forest, inside his territory.
• To term a tiger a man-eater, he has to make a human kill very very frequently.
• A man-eater tiger will go after humans by entering villages.
• Thousands of pilgrims go through this tiger’s territory, important to note that they are even on foot.
• There are videos proving the said tiger changing his route or simply running away on seeing tourists on foot.
• In all his previous three human kills, it was extremely difficult to get the victims bodies from this tiger, why time time he would leave it behind. This habit goes to prove that it is some other tiger.
• There is another male and a female who share part of the same territory as said tiger used
• This tiger has two cubs to look after, if he goes, the cubs could be attacked and killed by other male tiger.
• What is the guarantee that any tiger who takes upon this territory will not attack pilgrims on foot.
• Why did the department act in a jiffy to move him out of the park

Despite my previous assessment, the T24 situation is tragic. He's being moved an enclosure not even 0.5 hectares. The decision also seems to be abrupt my a strongly influential group according to the Tiger Protection Society. I wouldn't be shocked if T24, after such a traumatic move, ends up hurting keepers if someone were to let their guard down.

An American woman has been killed by a lion in one of South Africa's many lion parks .We don't know if she was there to trophy hunt or just photographic tourism .Both trophy hunting and photographic tourism take place in these South African parks . Last Updated Jun 1, 2015 12:46 PM EDTJOHANNESBURG -- A lion killed an American woman and injured a man driving through a private wildlife park in Johannesburg on Monday, a park official said. The attack occurred at around 2:30 p.m. when a lioness approached the passenger side of the vehicle as the woman took photos and then lunged, said Scott Simpson, assistant operations manager at the Lion Park."They had their windows all the way down, which is strictly against policy," he said. "The lion bit the lady through the window." The driver then tried to punch the lion and was scratched by the animal.Park staff quickly chased the lion away from the car and an ambulance arrived promptly. "Unfortunately, she did pass away," said Simpson, adding that the U.S. Embassy had been informed.Earlier, the U.S. Embassy confirmed that it had received reports of an "incident involving a U.S. citizen" at the Lion Park and was ready to offer "any assistance possible."The Lion Park is a popular destination for tourists who can drive in their own vehicles through large enclosures where lions roam freely. Visitors can also pet lion cubs in smaller pens or have supervised walks through cheetah enclosures."Nowhere can you get closer to a pride of lions and other animals and still be completely safe," says the park's website. The park would review its policies, said Simpson, but he believes existing safety measures are "more than adequate," if visitors follow them. Big signs advise visitors to keep their car windows up and drivers entering the park are also handed a paper with the same warning, he said.

Play Video The lion whisperer The park was featured in a November "60 Minutes" story about cub petting and the canned hunting industry - where people can pay to go into an enclosure and shoot a lion.As correspondent Clarissa Ward reported, The Lion Park is one of dozens of places in South Africa where tourists, many of them Americans, pay top dollar for the privilege of petting lion cubs. The parks breed their lions constantly to ensure a supply of cubs year round, but once the lions reach maturity, they are too dangerous to be near tourists.Earlier this year, South African media reported that an Australian tourist was bitten by a lion when he was driving in the park with his windows open. In April, a teenager was attacked by a cheetah when he tried to cut through the park on his bicycle, reported local outlet, News24.

So how about instead of removing the Lioness from the park, they remove the entire idea of Canned Hunting and Cub Petting, wouldn't that be a reasonable response and completely cut out this from happening again. I'm sure the fact that that these lions are raised by humans completely changes their attitude towards them.

Canned hunting ? The men don't know no longer what to invent in order to be more horrid, spineless, cowardly and, of course, totally ridiculous.

This is the sickest part

The excuse of them becoming to dangerous so those are probably the ones they hunt. Yet you can look up video after video of canned hunts where the alleged "dangerous lions" circle the jeep and seem to be excited to see the humans which is obvious since they were hand raised.
Its such a joke, human beings are a disgrace, not all, but these ones who do this have no sympathy or empathy and I in turn have none for them.
I'm not saying this women was or wasn't one of these people, she may have just been taking pictures but the signs there clearly state do NOT roll your window down at any time.
Sad either way, but wouldn't happen if they would follow the rules and stick to wild cats that aren't so comfortable with human beings I think.

A 6-month-old male tiger cub was killed at the Bandhavgarh tiger reserve after it was caught in a snare set up by poachers. The tiger was found dead at a private farm owned by deputy state assembly speaker Rajendra Singh adjacent to the Bandhavgarh national park on Sunday morning.Field director, Bandhavgarh tiger reserve, CH Murlikrishna told HT that park staff found the body while patrolling on Sunday morning. The cub had a GI wire around its neck, suggesting that it had been killed by poachers. The death appeared to have been two days ago.The dead tiger is the cub of the Aamala female and has another sibling. The park management used a buffalo calf bait to lead the tigress and the other cub back into the park. The field director said it could also have been a case of mistaken trapping, with the caretaker or his accomplices having set the snare to catch a herbivore or wild boar.
