One of the Avoca male lions is looking a little scarred around the face and nose.
We found this male mating with a lioness, and the injuries are probably as a result of fighting with his brother over mating rights.

Impressive Blondie :

Sadly he is limping again, he has periods where his limp is barely noticeble and periods where its bad, at this point is certaint that he has some chronic issues with that, he can easly reinjury his leg, prob with running or hunting where he has to burden his leg more.

Mohawk is in perfect condition, his limp fully healed.

It may be arthritis that gets aggravated every now and then. Long term will cause him issues.

Im not a vet or doctor, but i think artritis accurs at older age.

To me it looks like he tear tendons/ligaments or something like that when he was first seen limping, and it cant fully heal because he uses his leg, even little wrong movement is enough to recover his injury..

You may be right. I am just guessing given the frequency of the recurrence and it seems to be chronic. Though ligament damage also creates the same situation.

Londolozi was speculating that they may begin pushing into BBoys territory. Given his state, that would be a dangerous gamble.

Well thats a bit forced narrative, yes Avocas and Nkuhumas moved their territory a bit south, and where seen on the northern outskirts of Londolozi and north MalaMala around Mluwati Dam, but thats not territory of Bboys and Kambulas, they where not seen in that areas for very long time.

By the words of Londolozi rangers, they dont remember when they've seen Kambula pride further north of Sand River, and that goes for Bboys aswell, only Nhenha sometimes go for search of Tsalala female around Sand River bank river in Londolozi where she hangs out.

For north MalaMala, around Mluwati Dam and further east, you can occasionaly find members of the Torchwood pride, Kambulas dont venture there and Bboys where not seen there for around 2 yrs, since they came from the north.

So yea, Avocas definitely are not trying to invade or what, they are just following Nkuhumas who came in this areas few times prob because of better food source then on Djuma, their core territory atm is Arathusa and Elephant Plains.

Considering how long he has been seen limping and the frequency of it, it has to be something more severe than ligament damage.

Also the fact he has not been seen not limping for how long? Seems like his normal state is either be severely limping or slightly limping.

He is a very impressive male but it seems like there is something inherently wrong with his back legs/hips

He only limps on his right back leg, so i dont think he has some overall health issue, its specificly that leg, but yea we dont know..

The lioness with Avocas on gnu kill are the 2 Ximungwe lioness not Nk's.

Sadly Blondie is limping from the back left leg again, i just hope he recover from that injurie quickly, the leg seems a little swollen in the ankle area, but he manages to put his paw on the floor which is already a good sign... app the 2 males fighted aggressively on the kill sight.
