Tumbela still aren't confident to attack Matimba. Matimba male is still announcing his presence in the west.

Start watching at minute 4... https://www.instagram.com/tv/CHF8B5KFGKY...2kyd5x6hrw

Great info overall from that ranger on young males vs dominant males..

It doesnt matter the superior numbers of young males vs dominant males if they will get intimidated when they see dominant male and run away..

As he said "but people say: they are 3 vs 1 why they just dont attack the Matimba?? Things dont work like that"..

Its all about confidence and not numbers.

Precisely, he said the young Tumbelas don't see an old lion, just a massive beast with a huge black mane, and they don't have the confidence to challenge him. Really interesting situation, as if Hairy Belly is able to stick around when those cubs are born, does he accept them as his own? Not sure he will know the difference, though I doubt he is unaware of the mating that occurred. Hairy Belly has been known for his intelligence, and I think he really showed it in this situation.

He mated with that lioness also, so he will definitely accept the cubs..

They clearly had a difficult nomadic journey, and lost two brothers, which I think really affected their confidence. They still look less developed than their half brothers (Mbiris) but hopefully from this point on thing get better for them.

Here’s their dad, Sizanani, after loosing his limping Nkuhuma brother to the Matimba males. Look how similar he looks to his sons, and very ironic that his sons may now face off against the last Matimba.
