I just noticed one thing on Gage male now, he was collared when he was on his prime, on the photo of him already older he doesn't have the collar anymore just like with Adriano, Interesting.

I am gonna ask Tortato when he has some free time the size of this male.

Looking forward to see how large he is.

I am gonna ask Tortato when he has some free time the size of this male.

Looking forward to see how large he is.

Yup, I was thinking about this for the past few days, I'm still waiting on the Jaguar ID to send me the weights (it's taking long for the vets to get back to her due to the fires at the moment), but I expect Gage to be one of the jaguars in that list, let's cross our fingers.

Do the Jaguar ID Project capture jaguars themselves or these jaguars you mentioned are captured by Panthera??

Because if Jaguar ID capture jaguars it'll be awesome and one more source to join with Panthera in that area and it'll be only a matter of time to fill up the northern area part of the table.

And hopefully the Central Pantanal region too with the help of Panthera and Cenap. Reply

They don't perform captures themselves but they are in direct contact with the vets that do, so they have access to request that information. I also really value their insights on size estimations as they work and deal first hand with those jaguars. Btw, do you think you can ask Tortado is Adriano/Ruxu was ever captured more than once? I keep seeing people claim he weighed 154 and 157 kg when captured, so I wonder if those weights belong to a different capture from the 130 kg one.

Thats interesting to know vets are capturing jags in that area other than Panthera and CENAP/ICMBio.

I think the 158 kg claim came from another member of Panthera but it was later clarified by Fernando Tortato who confirmed Adriano weighed 130 kg.

But I'll ask him.

I sent him a few days ago the question if Juru was ever captured ( I think Juru was estimated after that post ) after I get that answer I'll ask Gage size then I'll ask about if Adriano was captured twice okay??

Jaguar ID is Paul Donahue's project. Paul, along with Paulo have the largest data base on Jaguar ID's and their lineage in the entire Northern Pantanal. There is no one on earth who knows more about their lineage than those 2, Donahue has probably clocked more hours with these cats than any in recent times. Reply

This is a good project, I love to ID big cats and they do something I like to do.

I wish there was a project specially on their sizes since conservations don't care about it like we do.

It must be amazing to live near those areas. I would like to have a chat with these 2 one day.

I recall one interview of Crawshaw in the Barulho da Onça program he saying it is delicious many nights in years and years when he was sleeping on the hammock in the field in Pantanal and waking up in the dead of night listening to the jaguar's ''Esturros'' ( the long distance communication of jaguars between individuals ) with no visual contact he listening to a male from far away communicating with the male that was nearer him both measuring up their strength through the communication then you notice their sounds is getting louder and closer as well as the females esturros far away looking for males to mate and when the males can approach her and when they can't and much more all by listening through the esturros.

They must've been priceless experiences and I can only imagine how delicious they were.

One single night like that would be unforgettable to anyone. Reply
