Hi All,
My first post. I got hooked up watching lions, leopards, cheetahs about May this year (2021). Especially lion dynamics is interesting, and I thought about a map to make more sense of it. Just now found this thread.
I wonder if it would be of interest to you, if anybody would like to contribute to create an interactive map? On the attached image is an early version / proof of concept, locations etc are wrong, sorry. Only an image, as haven't deployed it yet at this stage as a webpage, thus only a screenshot from my computer.
It would be an open source project, so anybody could use it on their website or develop in a different way.
- zoom in/out
- when you hoover over the icon, name shows
- when clicked, a card with some information shows up (website/directions just a place holder)
- at the moment male lions and notable females could have an icon, while prides are indicated by (now pink) circle
At the moment it would be technically tricky (my first map!) to draw exact area pride/males reside, so just markers around the middle of the areas.
What exactly would show up in the card, what icons etc, all up for a discussion.
What kind of contribution?
- Longitude/lattitude numbers to pin up an icon on the map
- names of males, coalitions and prides and other information about them
- advice
