Being Prepared.
Knowing animal behaviour can take us a long way when it comes to anticipation and framing of the shot. Lions have a habit of rubbing their faces as a way of greeting when they meet one of their pride members. when I saw this male seated on the ground enjoying the sunrise warmth and also saw another male walking towards the seated male I knew a Greeting was in the offing and therefore an image. So it was just a matter of positioning myself to avoid as much grass as possible which was in front of the seated Lion and deciding on what to show in the image. When the face rub happened it was for a fraction of a second and there was no way I would have got this shot if I was not ready. These kinds of shots cannot be set up and shows the mettle of the photographer.
