There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Here is a trapper who is caught and measured a 7 foot or 2.13 meter Alligator. The initial eyewitness report put it as 7 foot 6 inch or 2.28 meters.

"PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Police in Port St. Lucie are reminding their residents to be careful around bodies of water and alligators after a gator was removed from a lake.

On Monday, FWC removed a seven foot gator from a lake near Westmoreland Boulevard and southeast Morningside Boulevard.
Port St. Lucie Police say to keep children close and pets on leashes."

Way too small to be 7'

You can see from the first picture that if the man laid flat on top of the Gator that they'd be the same or he may even be longer.
He's probably 6' at most.

I have major doubts about the 2nd one being 7' too, the first one seems more likely to be that size though.

Actually, the guy gives a precise measurement of the Alligator as 6' 11" or 2.108 meters.

Maybe so but how he measures it is unseen. You can see fairly easily that its not a long animal. Just look at when he is on top of it, raising the gators head up.
If the man and gator lay flat, the man's torso easily surpasses the gators head and if the man's legs were extended they'd surpass the gators tail.

It is possible that he measured the Alligator like this.

"With her children fast asleep, Kibbe waited a couple of hours before calling the police. She told authorities over the phone she thought it had a length of about 3 feet or 4 feet but once an officer came to her home he estimated it was closer to 6 feet, she said.

A private trapper was sent to her Port Charlotte home shortly after. "He put a noose on it and it went into the death roll that I've seen on TV," Kibbe said.

Once the trapper was able to drag the gator into the front yard he was able to get an accurate measurement of a little over 7-feet. The trapper told Kibbe he was going to take it to a farm to be released for mating."

Maybe I'm just thrown off by how small they are in robustness, but the length to me doesn't look 7'.

Probably because you are eyeballing from certain angles of a photo.

At least the Alligator trappers measure it in their field.

Anyway, here is a 2.05 meter or 6 foot 9 inch Caiman.

Here is the 6 foot 11 inch Alligator from the video.

They look somewhat comparable.
