There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Fall of Mapogos Lions

yes, yes, yes, we know,
KNP is open to SS but both are fenced to residential areas.

the last link is from 1998, 18 years ago.

lions escaping the fence are darted and be returned inside the fence.
Only the Mapogo/Sand River Males were killed and 1-2 other cases.
One Mapogo youngster were shot in his back while he was trying to get under the fence back to SS to safety. They did not let him just crawl 1 meter away.

In Tanzania and Mara villagers live next to the Lions, there is no fence, that's why I tell you that you make the wrong comparisons.

( This post was last modified: 11-12-2016, 12:25 PM by sanjay Edit Reason: corrected the format )

yeah read what willem botha said about it how locals hated them . Mapogos were the only lion coalition in Sabi sands that hated by many people even people said about them in 2008 that killed those or separate those six lions and move them to different reserves. Human contributed in there fall. killing of dreadlocks is a clear example and probably Rasta is also a victim of Humans his Disappearance is a Mystery. the big male lion just not got fade away in air they dont find a single bone of rasta in elephant plains. the sound recorded in elephant plains sounds like only Pretty boy mauled by 4 Majingilanes then other 3 mapogos in time reinforcement saved him.

@fursan syed , I request you to use normal letters while writing. Big letters look odd and make the paragraph unnecessarily long. Use it only to highlight the important part of paragraph

ABOUT SANJAY

Sanjay is a gentlemen, whereas you, judging from the avatar showing a man with a handgun and the content of your posts, apparently are close to the opposite. Sanjay also is co-owner of WildFact. I'm the other.

I decided to inform you about a few things. Read carefully.

ABOUT JOINING A FORUM

1 - When you join a forum about the natural world, you don't use an avatar showing a man with a handgun.

2 - When you join a forum, you know about forum rules. At this forum, it starts with respect. Respect for animals, respect for good information, respect for other posters, respect for mods and respect for everything they produce.

3 - When you join a forum to interact, you communicate in a fitting way. This means you don't use big fat black letters all the time every time you post.

4 - When you learned how to post in a fitting way, you post good information. Not something else.

5 - When you like a forum, you know it is about accumulating good information. Readers like to be informed in the best possible way.

6 - When you disagree with a post, you use arguments. You never insult anyone, no matter what.

7 - On a forum, you distinguish between reality and the human version of it. On a forum, you discuss reality. You do the human version of it elsewhere.

8 - Forum members distinguish between information at the level of individuals and information at the level of species.

9 - Forum members distinguish between information provided by tourists and information collected by rangers and researchers.

Notice there's no rule about language. The reason is a forum isn't about flawless English. A forum about the natural world, apart from a few general rules (see above), is about good information.

ABOUT MAJINGILANE

Majingilane is a moderator. His department is lions. Wild lions. His job is to build a place where they feature. A place not based on hearsay, but a place based on good information. The aim is to build a place of beauty, not a temple. The lion king doesn't need worshippers, but members he can trust.

How get to good information? You start with individuals, coalitions and prides and you end with them. Life isn't about information at the level of species; it is and always will be about individuals. In the case of lions, one could add coalitions and prides. When you know a lot about one coalition, you can't say if it's typical or not. Based on what we know, there seem to be significant differences between regions.

What do you do when you are a moderator and the forum you work for has over 100 000 views a month? One is you want to prevent misinforming the public. This is why you don't say the Mapogos were special or not. The reason is you don't know. The best way to inform readers is to stick to good information. This is information collected by those in the know, like rangers and researchers. What others do with the information you post, is up to them.

Majingilane is doing a great job. That's why his lion threads draw a crowd. The flipside is crowds are notoriously unpredictable. There's always one out for trouble. Often, he announces his presence by spreading leaflets. Leaflets in big black fat letters saying the lion moderator is a fraud.

Then he just has to wait for a follow-up. Often, he will not be disappointed. Lions, just like us, always like a nice brawl. No particular reason needed. A good victim would be nice. And a majority if possible. Four to one, I'd say. Then the pummeling starts. No risk whatsoever with that majority. That's the nice part.

The bad part is a surprise. Majingilane wasn't alone. He's part of coalition of 8 (yes, I know 8 is a new record) and one of them suddenly appeared. Although striped, he also enjoys a nice brawl. The problem for you is he's co-owner of the place you selected for the fight. Bad luck.

ABOUT THE FUTURE

Here's what will happen.

One is you will apologize to Majingilane. Two is you will change your avatar. Three is you will quit crapping. A forum is not a place to walk the bloody dog and take a leak whenever you want to. You do good information or you leave. If you want to continue over here, better start reading the forum rules section.

This is an official warning. One more violation is out. Same for your friends.

Based on wat I saw so far, the advice is to move over to social media. More suited, I think.

@peter ,

the content of the posts of fursan syed is superb,
he has posted tens of interesting photos and he exposes the human factor in the Mapogo Decline,
probably you don't accept it but it is very possible

at least Willem Botha had accepted that Dreadlocks was killed by humans and his skin was found in a poacher's hide out.

I never said he wasn't informed. I said he ignores forum rules, which resulted in a bad climate and dispersion of information (multiple threads). Exactly what we don't want. The avatar also doesn't help.

A forum like WildFact is about good information and interacting with people with a similar interest. Fursan Syed and Majingilane both are interested in lions, but disagree about a few things. In order to solve the problem, they need to interact. In order to do that, they need a climate which enables them to do so. In order to get there, rules are needed. Members have to respect them at all times. If they do, a debate is possible. If they don't, problems are to be expected.

As co-owner, I want a good forum. With 'good', I mean good information, good debates and members respecting forum rules at all times. I know it isn't easy, but it's the only way to get to a good result.

Members with good information ignoring forum rules will be addressed. The reason is this strategy always results in problems. When the advice is ignored, they will be warned. When they ignore the warning, it's game over.

One could say that knowing how to interact is more important than good information. This means that those participating can't afford to be blinded by obsessions and emotions. Experienced debaters know that many debates can't be concluded in a satisfactory way. This they have to accept. The only real winner after a debate should be the reader. When a debate results in a bad climate and dispersal of information, the forum suffers. This is the moment something has to be done.

If Fursan Syed is really interested in lions and good debates, he no doubt will accept the conclusion I got to, adapt and try again. If not, a forum isn't the correct stage.

I feel that fursan syed has but a single objective here and that is to stir up trouble. He is showing a total disrespect to other posters, moderators, and even to the owners of this site. How well does his contributions stack up against his behavior? Not much of a balance in my opinion.

Fursan Syed, it isn't about your English or about any of the points you raised in your other recent posts. I also never said you posted bad information. I said the controversy between you and Majingilane resulted in a bad climate and in dispersal of information (multiple threads). Not what I want.

What I want is members respecting forum rules, good interaction between members debating an issue and a few good conclusions on the Mapogos. This means you have to quit discrediting Majingilane and settle your argument with him. Learning how to cooperate is more important than anything else.

As to your avatar. I know you are proud of the gun, but this is a forum about the natural world. The natural world is disappearing in front of our eyes. Many animals are poisoned and poached. I don't want a member of this forum using an avatar with a gun.

The bottom line is you should respect the forum rules and learn how to cooperate with members and mods.
