Also, it was found out here by Brahim old pictures of at the time unknown males who turned out to be Talamati and the unrelated males.

A few photos and sightings of them throughout the years, including Talamati mating while 1/2 unrelated male watched.

The 3 new Transport Dam males ( who were mistaken by Othawas a few years ago as one resembled Jr Othawa ) might even be their sons given their look and unknown origins in the area, though of course it's impossible to know.

Thanks for the information, it's needed because I've been on this for much less time and I've basically made the figure thanks to the input I can gather from your posts. As I said before I will update the diagram.

Here is the picture of late 2018 with IDs according to a post by @criollo2mil

And this is the picture shared by @Brahim, taken in 2021, where Talamati Matimba male is supposed to be with 2 unrelated males (without Manghenis)

In that 2018 photo there's only the Mangheni seen in 2023.

The other 2 males besides Mangheni and Talamati were identified later by Brahim as the unrelated partners seen later with Talamati. There's also a photo of Mangheni with the 2 unrelated males in the road.

Basically the second Mangheni went missing early on just like the third brother and since at least 2018 it has been Talamati, Mangheni and those 2 unrelated males.

I found this short from one month ago starring all the 7 playful older cubs and two females.

I also found a report from Sabi Sabi: https://www.sabisabi.com/discover/weekly...sh-vol-535 ... "It was reassuring to see the three youngest cubs reunited with the pride and well-fed. However, they remained noticeably thin, as they had been struggling to compete for their share of food against their larger cousins."

Therefore, 3/4 cubs of the youngest litter seem to be alive. It would make the count up to ten cubs in total, seven around 1 year old and three around 6 months old.

"The Msuthlu Pride has been a consistent sighting throughout the weekend, although the long grass and drizzly weather have made it difficult to get clear views. That all changed on Sunday when we found them lying in the open on the road, offering an incredible opportunity to observe their behaviour. The older cubs were playful, stalking one another, while the three youngest - still noticeably skinny - attempted to suckle from their mother.
After some time, the entire pride got up and walked about 20 metres before settling under some nearby bushes. They have been moving frequently across the reserve, hunting at night, although we have yet to see them with a successful kill. With the continued rains, the pride may find an advantage in securing a much-needed meal for their young."

Wow youngest cubs are actually looking very skinny, I hope they recover, but the oldest cubs are going to eat more and more each day

Current Composition:  (as of 25 April 2024)

- 4 Lionesses sired by the Northern Avocas born appx late 2018-early 2019
- 3 Cubs sired by Gijima Males born appx Nov/Dec 2023
- 2 Cubs sired by Gijimas born appx Dec 2023/Jan 2024
- 2 Cubs sired by Gijimas born appx Feb/March 2024

Pride Males :   Gijima Coalition

Resident around Sabi Sabi and Umkumbe region of Southern Sabi Sands.

The Msuthlu Pride gained its name approximately March of 2024 and named after a river bank in the region the pride was sighted most frequently and used as denning sites for their original litters.

Four Surviving Lionesses, Originated from the Talamatii Pride sired by the Northern Avocas settled in the Southern Regions of the Sabi Sands after being nomadic for over a year.  after being seen mating with several males of different Coalitions, they were ultimately taken over by the two Dominant Gijima Males.

The four females have been coined on social media as:   Big Blue, Clipped Ear, Brown Tawny and Dark Amber based on distinctive physical traits.

Three of the Females have been reported to have litters.

Clipped Ear is the mother of the Oldest litter of 3 Cubs; two Female and One Male.

Big Blue is mother to second Litter of 2 Cubs (sex unknown?)

Dark Amber is the third female suspected to have cubs but her litter has yet to be sighted.

Thank you very much @criollo2mil . Based on your post and lattest sightings I'm going write what I think is the current composition of Msuthlu pride:

- 4 Lionesses sired by the Northern Avocas born appx mid 2018-early 2019
- Total of 10 cubs
  • 3 Cubs sired by Gijimas born appx Nov/Dec 2023
  • 2 Cubs sired by Gijimas born appx Dec 2023/Jan 2024
  • 2 Cubs sired by Gijimas born appx Feb/March 2024
  • 3 Cubs sired by Gijimas born July 2024

Clipped Ear is the mother of the Oldest litter of 3 Cubs (2F/1M).
Big Blue is mother to second litter of 2 cubs (1F/1M)
Dark Amber is the mother of the third litter of 2 cubs (1F/1M)
Hence, Brown Tawny is the mother of the youngest litter (2F/1M)

Brown tawny has the youngest 4 but the southern pride killed one of her 4 cubs
Also worth mentioning that I believe these four females are two sets of sisters
