Smudge and Snip Tail, apparently having an argument with a lioness

by the fresh crashes on their faces, its likely they were either fighting for mating rights or even attacking this female

This is the big unknown with this coalition, and a question many of us have asked several times. A few of them seem to have this issue, among other issues as well, such as losing and regaining conditioning really quickly. Likely some sort of illness.

No one really knows.

Lions usually lose their mane due to stress, normally caused by nomadic life or some health complication, like a injury or disease.

Unlike some of his other brothers, Smudge looks in perfect shape, yet still lost his mane.
I think something similar happened to both Trichardt male sometime ago, but they recovered

Smudge Nkhulu in Kirkman's Kamp

"Waking up can be quite a task! One of the Nkuhlu male lions took his time to wake up, yawning repeatedly but clearly not ready to start his patrol."

There appears to be more of a definitive split happening with this coalition at the moment. Seems like Smudge, Snip Tail and 5 are hanging together most of the time and #3 & #6 the same. Any news on #4 recently?

yes it seems like these are the groups they've been hanging together more frequently since april, but likely no definitive split yet. Snip Tail was somewhere near/with his brother #3 in april so both 'sides' still meet each other.
Smudge, Snip Tail and #5 are the males that frequent Kirkman's Kamp - Sabi Sand area more often, #3 and #6 seem to be wandering throught Kruger, maybe with the Plains Camp pride?

Wait if it’s a split happening and they only have 1 pride and 6 is always with females and snip tail is always with females or patrolling where is the split unless they do have a second pride

I think it’s highly likely they do have a 2nd pride as @Ngonya says probably Plains Camp Pride. We’ll just have to see if and when a proper ‘split’ happens in the future and if their ongoing health issues will impact this in any way.

The Plains Camp pride and their several big cubs were seen in the last month or so and it doesn't seem that the Nkhulas have taken over it. The pride is doing well and keeping a low profile on their own these days.

appreciate the info.

So its likely the other lionesses in Kruger are also Sand River? I dont think the pride would split that much.

Maybe just a portion of the Plains Camp Pride is with them? Or all females were accounted for with the subs/cubs?
