It's a mystery, Makhohlola males don't come this far west, and Mathekenyane males were seen near Jock recently chasing those 4 young Jock breakaway boys so yeah everyone isn't sure who could do this, apparently those 5 young H5/ Gomondwane males were seen also around.

From the guys at Sanparks " Maybe they both fought for a female? Because what killed that male is that he was bitten badly on his hind leg and he died of bleeding he doesn’t have any scars around his face and also not on his back just feel claw marks"

This is also a theory, maybe mating fight hit an artery and he died, it's happened before with many other lions. Also if other males did this s26 males should have left the area which they haven't.

A sad day to see a deceased male lion who had not yet reached his prime.  We could only speculate as to what happened to him.   We believe he entered the territory of a stronger coalition of males that led to his demise. We think that he was part of a young coalition of males who stood no chance against the powerful s26 males.  Their strength and experience was no match.  From a distance we could see the balance of the young coalition of males edging forward to see their fallen leader.  We could see that they were very skittish, the elephants chasing them repeatedly added to their visible vulnerability.
After sitting watching for a couple of hours, a magnificent huge elephant wondered in the fallen lions direction, silence fell as we wondered what the elephant would do.  She edged forward and edged closer, the uncertainty was palpable, she seemed to sense that the lion had passed and respectfully gave him space and waled away.
It was a very emotional witness.  It might be natures' way, and survival of the fittest, but we believe we saw nature showing compassion and sorrow.

Apparently they are still trying to identify the deceased Lion.

You can see the young cub feasting on the deceased lion.
I want to ask though , is this the same lion who died near the water ? This male in the pic is in the open land .... kind of getting confused now ...someone moved him ? Or two separate deceased lions ?

Have both been seen? There was a lot of blood on the Gomondwane males for a slight limp.

Oh okay thought so , looked exactly like him at the pond.
I believe he is the s26 lion , what are your thoughts ??? Some are saying he was the Intruder , not a S26 male.
